Thanks for the pic's WN. They clear up the confusion about the Lum logo and chops being on the blade rather nicely..... ;)

Both knives have absolutely the same feeling when you hold them in hand. Both open/close nicely like all linerlocks.
I do think that older Chinese folder looks better mostly because of color handles and stainless steel clip. I also like the fact that screws are leveled with a handle on the older one. I also noticed that both logo and stamps on the blade look much-much better on the older Lum.
And of course if ZDP189 is so much better than VG10 as advertised, all these cosmetic details do not matter for those who are going to use new Lum :D

BTW. Thank you RIOT and fellyjr!

I was about to bid on the ONE, only one, on ebay but, :( , it sailed smooth past my budget for the month. But GAH, this picture makes me strongly consider breaking out the little plastic rectangle in my wallet.

dont pay double for one off of ebay, if you patiently wait for one of the main distributors to get them in stock again you can get it for 125 - 140, keep calling knifecenter to find out when the are getting another batch, and on that day call right after UPS drops of the shipment and snag one, on tuesday they only got 6 of them in and the sales guy let me have one and only one though

good luck

This sprint run stuff always confuses me. Does this mean that collectors of primary knives only will not get a chance at a numbered knife?

Yeah, since this is a variation, only variation collectors will receive a numbered LUM. New model only collectors get about 10-12 pieces per year, but the variation CC members are committed to....sometimes 40+ creations (variations) per year. And sometimes they come 7 to 10 at a time, but there is no way Spyderco can ship out a collector variation piece 1x every 7 days or so.

It is most definitely a financial commitment to be a variation collector, but you are assured of getting EVERYTHING produced.

I am a primary collector only. Have pre-ordered one, but would have liked getting my numbered Lum.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

They are now no longer taking orders. My date is ( "some time in Aug. ")

Can anyone PM or E-mail me other large Spyderco dealers that I can pre-order future sprint runs?

Thanks, it sucks to be new.......... :o

But according to Dave at Knife world, I have one on the way. :D

I tried the link above and they must all be gone...or just not currently working. I want one! While I was looking for someone with them I saw a few sites advertising Black Chinese folders with VG-10 blades...must be a typo, eh?

From what I heard, the first batch was a very limited run. The second batch should be coming out by the end of Aug/ early Sept and it would be a more 'normal' sized batch for general distribution to wholesalers.

I'm eagerly anticipating my Lum/s :D
