We didn't miss the point of the thread... We just don't have the answer you wanted to hear. :rofl

It sounds like something is wrong with your knife. It is not normal for a knife to become "unsafe to carry" after opening it 15-20 times. Might be time to contact warranty and repair about this one if you're unable to resolve the issue yourself.
There's no answer I want to hear, I simply want to know why this happens at all.

I have lots of folders with lots of different pivot designs in different locks that don't do this. All of them have pivots that the user can't tighten down all the way and still use the knife with any degree of practicality, just like Spydercos.

So it's not a matter of finding the answer I want. It's a matter of finding an answer, period.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

I have two native 5’s, one native chief and one S2XL… none have “lock rock”.

All were bought online from three different retailers. So, to say all Spyderco back locks have it is a bit over the top.
I have one back lock from a well known Swedish military brand that does. None of my other back locks have lock rock and some are quite old and well used.
Whatever turns you on, cupcake.
Still plays with knives…

Understood. I also agree that this is something we should continue to try and find an answer to. We can speculate but for many of us it will be difficult to pin point the source of the issue without experiencing it ourselves.

Come to think of it though, I have lost the pivot screw on a Ladybug. It worked itself free somehow and was long gone before I ever noticed it. Also reminds me that I still need to get that pivot screw replaced. :grin-squint

I've also had a Delica come in with every screw needing to be tightened except the clip screws. Easy fix but a completely different situation.

I've had really good luck with screw tightness from factory. Out of all the Spydercos I've purchased new, only one had issues there. My Chief LW with it's laughably over tightened pivot. Otherwise they're usually pretty dialed in there in my experience.
