Cru Wear Centofante III !
Re: Cru Wear Centofante III !
The hollow-grind combined with a premium steel and thin blade stock would have made a great case for itself being a proper high performance model that many of us been craving from Spyderco.
If it is indeed a flat-sabre grind it is simply no longer particularly appealing for me, and to be honest very easy to pass up on at that ridiculous asking price.
I see a Flat-sabre replacing the hollow grind as nothing more than a cost cutting measure.

The Centofante 3 has been on my list of knives I'm interested in but the price for this version about knocked me out of me chair.
It will be a pass for me just on that front.

There is a good video on IG of one from nfl_edc_knives. It has Torx heads.Meadowlark wrote: ↑Fri Sep 06, 2024 2:58 pmIt looks like the cf is pinned, right?
Edit: now that I looked again, is this screw construction?

The body screws are but I'm still wondering about the pivot screw/pin underneath the clip.

Mine should arrive Monday and if it’s not a hollow grind… I’ll be returning it.

Is the current catalog models pivot pinned? I.e. not adjustable pivot?Evil D wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 3:17 pmBuddafucco wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2024 11:14 amThere is a good video on IG of one from nfl_edc_knives. Re: Cru Wear Centofante III !
the frn centofante 3 & 4 were always fully pinned and drilled for right hand carry only. I haven't heard of any CQI changes to them since I last owned one around 2006.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

Re: Cru Wear Centofante III !
the only screws on my frn versions of the 3 and 4 were for the clip.

Re: Cru Wear Centofante III !
It's a (saber?) grind. I went to the instagram account mentioned above and watched the video. Like it starts at flat, then becomes a hollow grind halfway through. From what I see the original is like that as well, so yeah it is a hollow grind.
Re: Cru Wear Centofante III !
It's 2mm stock. whether its a hollow saber grind like the OG, or a flat saber grind, it'll slice well. Especially if you drop the edge angle down to 10-12dps.
May you find peace in this life and the next.
Re: Cru Wear Centofante III !
It's hard to tell even in videos but the reflection on the blade sure looks flat. But, the hollow grind on my Ayoob sprints were all way less hollow than my original so it may just be less pronounced. Mine is also due to arrive tomorrow so we'll see.

Re: Cru Wear Centofante III !
This is an interesting release. Hopefully the pivot is screwed, as would seem likely with the body rivets of yore changed to screws.
Something else I am curious about-- does this model have a kick? My recollection was that the old models didn't have a kick and that in the closed position you could accidentally squeeze the blade so that the edge could contact the lock bar or spring.

Of course… Evil D or someone else might beat me to it though!

If you’re talking about the sprint Ayoob in Cruwear, those aren’t hollow grinds, they’re saber. I had mine reground to hollow and it was a world of difference.

The Cruwear sprint is hollow, however small it may be, I sharpen the back side of mine FLAT on a stone and you can see where scratches are only on the edge and top shoulder of the grind. It may be so small it doesn't matter in performance but you can see it after sharpening the way I am.
