Re: Lil VS XL
I've found that the knives I prefer to use and carry range from 3 to 4 inches but I always carry something lil to not scare the sheeple. The para 2 and manix 2 are about perfect sized for my liking but I also find the df2 and lil native fairly comfortable for my sheeple approved blades.

Re: Lil VS XL
Just me being overly cautious :D In all likelyhood the clients in question wouldn't have thought anything of an employee cutting boxes with a large-ish knife. But on the off chance that they might, I tucked it away (I love how fast you can close and pocket the Shaman btw). I don't think I'd get fired if anyone complained, but there's an excellent chance I'd be told to use those aweful little box cutters instead and to leave my knives at home. It only takes one unreasonable or skiddish person to ruin a good thing. But you're right 99.999% of clients probably wouldn't care.

Re: Lil VS XL
From the prototypes I've heard talk of it sounds more like an extra large Native. I'd be more interested in a Shaman XL than a Native XXL.

Re: Lil VS XL
I enjoy large knives like the Military and Police but realistically my daily needs are for only opening packaging and the like, so something like the Delica or Dragonfly offer a good balance of ease of carry vs. utility. I can't say I've had to open a lot of watermelons daily, but when I know I have something like kitchen duty in mind for my folders the bigger ones do come out to play, at least an Endura or Stretch.
Also, the legal limit here is 4" and preferably non-locking, so to play law-abiding citizen I typically carry small.

Re: Lil VS XL
3.5" blade length is the "sweet spot" for me because bigger knives don't ride well at the bottom of my back pocket. I'd be very happy to see a 3.5" bladed Lil Police 4, since the full size one is way too big to fit back there. I'd also be quite happy to see a 3.5" bladed Chaparral XL or Sage 4 XL, since Spyderco has yet to offer a 3.5" bladed midlock by their maker.

Re: Lil VS XL
I am loving it. I have carried it almost every day since I got it. That was about a week ago. The contoured scales are super comfortable. I did swap a shorty dragonfly clip onto it and it is much more comfortable for me that way. The action and fit and finish are perfect, Taichung smooth. The blade shape is actually great for a lot of things. It does have a very acute tip so we shall see how it holds up but I am finding the acuteness of the tip to be very useful for EDC tasks. It fits a ton of blade in a svelte handle. It has thick liners so it isn't an ultralight knife but with it's size and shape it carries like a dream.
It is sort of a large gents folder. I may polish the scales up. I am definitely keeping this one. I wish I hadn't waited so long to get it.

Deacon, out of curiosity, do you remove clips for ergonomics? Or are you simply not a fan of clipped carry when it comes to your pocket knives? The Deacon wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 3:10 pm3.5" blade length is the "sweet spot" for me because bigger knives don't ride well at the bottom of my back pocket. I used to remove mine to improve ergonomics but I can't recall your reasons.
May you find peace in this life and the next.

I wanted to like it but ultimately it was too much knife for me. Glad it's in good hands now :)bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 3:34 pmI am loving it. Me too. Loved the handle, not the acute tip.

Oh, how about that. I did notice it came from a female in Texas when the package arrived but didn’t put any more thought into it than that. It’s in good hands now! :) Thanks SG!

Re: Lil VS XL
All my knives are. :) The Endura isn’t used very much and the Calypso and Pattada are recent acquisitions so they have only seen a little pocket time. The rest have seen a lot of use and pocket time. I have actually carried that behemoth K2 a ton! :D

Those Calypsos are very tempting. I love the scaled down versions as much as I like any other small knife, I know I'd like the full sized.bearfacedkiller wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 4:25 pmAll my knives are. :) The Endura isn’t used very much and the Calypso and Pattada are recent acquisitions so they have only seen a little pocket time. Re: Lil VS XL
I'd enjoy a Lil' Manix! I always loved the look of that knife, but as it is, the ergos are all wrong for my hands, and the way the handle is designed makes it really horrible for me. A shrunken one would fix that, and then I'd get to enjoy the Manix like y'all lucky people.
However, as I said in the other thread, I would really really love to see Spyderco make some larger linerless lightweight knives. I like large knives. Something with a blade the size of the Police would be great, and I'm going to enjoy checking out the new Police LW, although the fact that it has liners and is heavier means I probably won't end up buying one.
Also, there's one XL version that I'm really looking forward to and have high hopes for -- the Chief. Right now I have my "small knife" category satisfactorily filled by the Native 5, and my "medium knife" category has a few knives in it, but the Endura is the closest thing I have to a "large knife" and it's really more of a "medium knife" and also doesn't click with me enough for me to carry it around everywhere. It makes a decent beater and has been very useful in the kitchen, but there's a bunch of things about it that just don't gel quite right enough with me to make it the perfect large EDC (lots heavier than my other knives, blade not as long as I want it to be, no flat-ground Spyderedge version).
The more I hear about blade length limit laws in other places, the luckier I feel to be living in Arizona. No limits here, on either concealed or open carry, you can conceal-carry a sword if you can figure out how to physically manage that.
