Really like the scales Jeff ! Did you do anything special prepping scales before application ? What temp was the Dye ? Buddy Dan
I just cleaned them up with dawn dish soap. Which worked pretty well. They were lighter then when I first got it. I treated the Micarta like G10, which meant I got the water to boiling in a pot. Added some Vaseline in random spots that I didn't want to soke up the dye. Did a light blue bath everywhere, then added more Vaseline and dipped the ends into a dark blue bath. The Vaseline was not as effective as I wanted. I wanted more brown in it. But I really like how it turned out. The blue with all the satin exposed is quite handsome.

I wasn't concerned if I screwed it up. I would have just dyed the whole thing dark blue. I really like the brown, but a blue Micarta is more interesting to me.

Another Salt Magnacut dyed with Racing Red. It looked fine in yellow, but red's better.

That color is exactly what I am looking for with my Native Salt. What color and process did you use?

Thanks!

So this is actually a mix of three different Rit Dyes that is suppose to be "Moss Green" but if left in long enough you get a nice OD Green. You will need Apple Green, Dark Green, and Dark Brown. I took a small/medium sized pot and put 4 cups of water, 1 cup white vinegar, one squirt of dish soap (not sure if it does anything), 1 tablespoon of Apple Green, 1/2 tablespoon of Dark Green, 1/2 tablespoon of Dark Brown. Once it heated to a low boil I soaked the knife for 3 minutes total, checking it every 30 seconds to see if the color was where I wanted it and 3 minutes seemed to get me there. At first I thought I had done it too dark but out in direct sunlight it turned out to be a nice OD Green, my pictures aren't the best. Also, I didn't take the knife apart, I only took the clip off. Hope this helps!

Looks great! This why I like black hardware on some dark scale colors. It just goes better for me with some dark colors. RIT Dye is great way to achieve that.

Thanks for this. I just got my N5 in magnacut and am so stumped on what to dye it. I've done the red on my Rex45, done green on another Salt. Don't want to do blue (have 2 other N5's in blue).... Did graphite grey on the light blue which turned into an OD green so don't need another one of those.... Argh! May just go black out of laziness.

Well the yellow didn't last 24 hours. I definitely see the value of high visibility, but most of the time I don't need it.
