Ever since receiving the REC N5, I'm having second thoughts about my aversion to Natives. An upsized, choilless Lil Native or a choilless comp lock Native would be amazing. Having no thumb ramps really makes for a more comfortable edc-sized knife.

Anyway, it would be awesome. I love the Bodacious, it is a phenomenal knife. The best of the larger Spydercos by a good margin in my view.

To be fair, Spyderco has a limited capacity, with projects taking years to see release.

I would buy a bodacious XL in a heart beat.

I wouldn't even consider a mini.

So I gotta agree with Tristan.

Might sound selfish, but I'd rather see their limited capacity being put towards things I'd consider buying than things I wouldn't. More designs sized around the Military / Police / Szabo folder range, not 300 Para 3 variants or lil anything.

But, the market speaks, and Spyderco is a business. I'm happy with what larger models we get. Just gets a little frustrating seeing most big, or even XL models, top out around the Endura.

I know that a "Bodacious XL" would be even more to your liking, no doubt!

But without ever actually holding one myself: Is the current Bodacious really so small to you?
Resp. which aspects make a knife "small or large" for you?

If comparing the Bodacious to the Millie, from all I can see:
- The Bodacious should offer at least the same grip area if not more as the Millie does behind its choil (and as far as I know you don´t really like to choke up there)
- The Bodacious offers a cutting edge length (3.53) between Pac Salt (3.39) and Millie 2 (3.65)
(- The Bodacious does have a shorter blade though than both Millie and Pac Salt, but that blade is almost all edge)

My bad if that came off prudish. As vivi said, it pretty much just has to do with production capacity issues and selfishly hoping spyderco releases new knives that are more my personal style. To restate, if they make a lil bodacious id happy for everyone that would love to get one

That´s what I thought... when it comes to available grip the Bodacious should be "larger" than the Milli behind the choil and concerning cutting edge "larger" than the Pac Salt.

/ Especially the Native 5 would be a MUCH better knife for my particular hand size without a choil (and in return more edge), in the Chief I don´t mind the choil (still a choil-less version would be cool)

And YES, if these ever happen: Definitely keeping the BACKLOCK, especially the great Native family backlock.

The Bodacious' blade is too long for me to carry about town. I find myself hesitating to use it. I smaller version would be cool. Made in Golden because their compression locks have the best action.

The Precocious is a fun name. Props to Tim for thinking of it.

To be fair, there's a whole world of difference between a vg-10, liner lock LLum and the possible comp lock, s30v Lil Bodacious... While I don't have a Lil Lum myself but I am also on the lookout for one (specifically the black G-10 version), I think the Lil Bodacious with it's ergonomic handles would blow away the Lil Lum on handle ergonomics alone, nevermind safety (since the Lum series doesn't have a protruding guard/quillon to prevent the hands from slipping up the handle during cutting movements). And then there's the compression lock vs. the liner lock.

But I'm with you on a leaf blade Microjimbo. I know Mike designed it to his specifications, but a reblade would be a welcome addition to the Spyderco Micro/ Lil' family.

Pacific Salts are the smallest knives I carry.

I have no legal restrictions at all, and people where I live don't bat an eye at larger knives or open carry guns, so my perspective is skewed a little different than most folks here.

The Police is about the perfect size for me, or even a touch longer like the szabo folder. I find the longer blades useful for reach, they dull slower, more efficient etc.

So I selfishly hope for more Spyderco knives in that range despite knowing they sell poorly compared to sages, para 3's, etx.

There's more to size in my eyes than cutting edge, and the grip area people speak of generally excludes the back side where my hand is widest. The Military and Chief have about the same edge but the Military definitely feels bigger in hand.

For perspective, here's a 5.5" folder in my grip next to a Pacific Salt for scale



So I appreciate what a lot of folks consider wasted handle space, because for me it's useful. Also I find knives more comfortable when the rear end extends out from my hand instead of terminating earlier and digging into the meat of my palm, like Enduras do.

Might be fun to start a new thread on size ranges we choose from for EDC, how hand size affects ergonomics and similar subject matter.

Anyways, I don't mean to poo poo on the idea of a mini bodacious, or a mini mini manix etc. I'm sure there's a market for them. In fact, a bigger market than an XL bodacious or XXL Manix like I dream of.

I don't mean to derail this thread any more. Maybe there's already a smaller bodacious in the works even. The reg Bodacious seems like it's been doing good so far, and even if we never see an XL and do see a mini, I'd be happy seeing Spyderco expand on their humpless, choil free offerings. That's a trend I want to see continue.

In an ideal world Spyderco could have their expansion completed already, hire a bunch of skilled workers, and pump out different size ranges of all the models we enjoy using.

I don't mean to come across as entitled. I am extremely happy we got a Police 4, the first ever FRN Police series, the Military 2, Catcherman Sprint etc. I'm grateful Spyderco does cater to so many different size ranges. I need to remember that just because an Endura is my baseline smallest knife, for a lot of folks that's too long due to laws, smaller hand size, etc.

As you know I find longer blades useful too, but even more so if they also have a lot of cutting edge in a given length
I never even held a Bodacious, but just by its specs I thought it might be at least one you could consider - since its cutting edge is longer than a Pac Salts, and if you hold a Millie behind the choil I could imagine that then it does not offer more space also on the backside of the handle than a Bodacious. Just guessing here though.

For me (considering Pac Salt /Endura not the smallest - , but the ideal size I´d carry) if they made a Bodacious-ish backlock knife, this could be pretty perfect.
Not really interested in a "Mini" version personally, though the handle shape of the Bodacious should lend itself to work well also in smaller.
