Yojimbo Ball Lock Prototype!
Yes, the Stop Lock is under development by Spyderco. If you do a search here, you'll get some references to it. Otherwise it's under secrecy, as they develop it. You may be able to find further online information through the U.S. Patent Office.VashHash wrote:Whats a stop lock? Never heard of this one before. Is it a new one spyderco is working on?

pretty cool, anti-torsion. Thanks for the links.
Mike J,
I think some form of BBL would make most of the target ELUs happy. I could certainly appreciate it. While I like the appearance of the open BBL, the actual function of the CBBL seems like it would reach a broader customer base in the sense that less spyderco-aware and folder afi type folks would probably feel a little bit more comfortable with it.

I have to give thanks to the designer once again. It's nice to know that you do think of us too, lefties are forgotten waaaay too often.Michael Janich wrote:My personal preference would be a Ball Bearing Lock with a cage to make the knife fully ambidextrous.
A Yojim-ball???
Stay safe,
Mike
Although, I find my present Yo really easy to close. As I do with the Superhawk and the ATR too. But speaking of lock strenght, even without any science or stats behind it, I just can FEEL the cbbl being helluva strong. ManixII just feels like FB. Only thing matching it, is the ATR's comp. lock.
slightly OT; any blade(or other) measurements decided yet? Man, I can't wait for his one... and the mini-version after this

just curious, is it a strength issue or just the fact that the original design is being modded? Right now the lock on my Yo is a hallucination lock, (meaning that I don't have one :D ) and if for some reason a BBL made it easier to produce and obtain, sign me up!!David Lowry wrote:Me no likey.
I don't ever want to get rid of a Compression Lock to replace it with a ball lock. Sorry, just me. :)
Different strokes, tho. Merry Christmas, all!

Mike, are you saying a CBBL is more ambidextrous than a BBL??Michael Janich wrote:My personal preference would be a Ball Bearing Lock with a cage to make the knife fully ambidextrous.
Each to their own, of course but as much as I like the comp lock I'd trade it for a BBL any day. Even for a CBBL but I really like the orig drawing on pg 1. Sweet!David Lowry wrote:Me no likey.

Dear Ken:kbuzbee wrote:Mike, are you saying a CBBL is more ambidextrous than a BBL??
Both the BBL and the CBBL are equally ambidextrous; however, the caged one is easier to release (al least for me). The compression lock is not ambidextrous.
With all that said, part of the decision on the Yo II's lock will be based on manufacturing practicality and availablity of resources. Having too many great products and new-product ideas is difficult!

I get that. Personally, I've found the BBL to be easier to operate one handed but that seems to be a pretty even split of opinion.Michael Janich wrote:Both the BBL and the CBBL are equally ambidextrous; however, the caged one is easier to release (al least for me). That's a good problem to have!Michael Janich wrote:Having too many great products and new-product ideas is difficult!

Good work, congratulations and thanks for sharing. I'm perfectly satisfied with the complock but I think a ball lock (especially caged, like Mr. Janich already mentioned)would do the trick as well.
What I'm not very fond of at your design is that in closed position the end of the blade (near the pivot) makes sort of a "spur" - just like the Paramilitary does.
At the original Yojimbo, the blade goes flush with the handles. Correct this and I'm sold
