Is this from personal experience? Or are you just saying that because of what the online customer service statement says?tap wrote:It does cost $20 dollars for repairs plus $5 for shipping if you send a knife in for some screw repairs.
Because I have heard of several instances (including one of mine), where Spyderco did not charge for repairs that seemed to fall well within the "payment" criteria.
In my instance, I expected to pay the fee, and was ready to, but was surprised when my knife was returned with my uncashed checks. This does not mean that I will expect Spyderco to complete any future repairs I might need for free, as they are, above all, a business, and need to make money. I will always expect, and be prepared to pay, for any repairs; if Sal and the Gang choose to extend a courtesy towards me, it just cements my loyalty to Spyderco, but I am not under any illusions of supposed privilege.

Sorry for the continued post, I felt the need to add something in relation to the topic.
This brings something important to my mind. In many ways, I feel as much of an unreasoning dislike toward Benchmade as that dealer did towards Spyderco, and this thread has reminded me of the foolishness of that.
Quite often, I feel an almost blind loyalty towards Spyderco, to the point of actively disliking other brands for perceived inferiority.
If there's one thing that I've learned from the Spyderco knives that I've bought, it is that:
a. You can't judge something until you've had experience with it yourself.
b. You can't always judge a brand by a single experience.
To this end, I have resolved to try very hard to not automatically tune out whenever someone mentions Benchmade (I'm thinking specifically of one friend I have who's quite into BM). I may not like the fact that they use the round hole, but seeing as all Sal has said is that they "have an agreement", I don't know the whole story, and I shouldn't make assumptions.
Reading this thread has reminded me of the fact that no matter how much we like a company, we shouldn't let our like of one company turn into dislike of another company strictly because of any preconceived notions.
