My G10 arrived today. Perfect in every way.

abbazaba still wants to know: is there confirmation of the CQI pivot in the G-10 variant?

Well the blade has zero side to side play or lock play, and it freely swings open and closes with the compression lock depressed. It is exactly like a newer Para 3 g10 and Para 2 in that regard so I suspect it does have the CQI pivot. As an aside, the bevel grind is perfect and the blade is perfectly centered. :smiling-heart-eyes
Thank you sir! I have more than a couple Sage5 FRN, and the Sage5 in G10 would be a welcome change so I'm officially on the hunt.

Got my G10 version a few days ago, finally got a chance to swap the pocket clip to left hand carry and give it a good look this morning. I have to say this is one of the best examples of Spyderco fit and finish I've ever seen. I do like the burnt orange color myself. Behind the edge it measures about .018" thickening to about .025" at the tip. It will be interesting to put my own edge on this one.

:nerd What is the hardness, rockwell, HRC for the Sage 5 rex-121? I so wish that they left this detail on websites in general, but this is less and less the case. I know HRC isn't everything, but it also isn't nothing either, and it is a legitimate variable for purchase consideration. When getting high edge retention, super high end knife steels, this is especially important to know. Anyways, can anyone help and provide it's HRC value?

Thank you,
Daniel

I received my lightweight version yesterday and agree - best fit and finish I’ve seen from Spyderco. Grinds are high and even, lasering of logo, scales, and action are flawless. Really amazing when you consider how difficult this steel is to work with. Kudos to Spyderco for taking their time and getting things right rather than rushing this to market several years ago when REX121 started to get a lot of hype. Worth the wait. Excited to finally test this steel out.

I've had a custom fixed blade in REX 121 for a couple years, I think. Unfortunately I haven't used it a ton. But the edge on that (which is still as it came from the maker) reminds me of the stock edge on the Sage so far. Not the screaming sharpest edge ever but aggressively cuts cardboard. I will have to sharpen both these knives up and see what happens. The fixed blade is ground thin, about .015" on the entire edge, and I do happen to know that one is 70-71Rc, which is pretty wild. A folder will be much easier for me to use day in day out so I'm interested to see how this steel does. I do think it will be a bit too extreme for me (Maxamet is borderline, 15V seems to be the sweet spot for high hardness/high carbide volume steels for me) but gotta use it to find out.

I just spent $500 on new stones for a $300 knife🤣🤣🤣 Going to mirror polish this baked bean to 11k grit. Use it to shave AND as a mirror.
I like the way you think! 😆

Wanted to test a mirror edge on the Bean knife. I think a low grit of 220 would be good from my going through the grits. Next I will test a two grit finish of 11,000 mirror on one side and 220 on the other.
