Spydies are lean, mean cutting machines good for working stiffs like me that would rather spend there money on more important things than knives.

If I'm going to spend $500 - $1,000 then price I'm going custom with all the uniqueness, beauty and fit and finish that you can only really get with a custom.

But this type of discussion is fun as it is what makes a horse race.
How dare you hijack the Tang thread!!!

...wait just a minute, you mean this is a Sebenza thread?

I've never handled a Sebbie, but I do agree they look nice, and are well built from what I can tell. The Ti handle is a big plus, it makes me get the jones for the Ti Lil Temp that we may see in the future.

I just don't have that kind of money to throw down on a knife, but that's just my case. That's why I like Spyderco soooo much, you get quality materials and production at a 4th of the price some places charge for the same stuff.

Nothing wrong with a Sebbie at all, if I had the cash I would pick one up. I love the handle graphics, and higher grade material. But if you want that stuff, you gotta pay.

Here is the bottom line:
I don't think the higher price tag will make it cut any better than my Spyderco( and it's probably not as eronomic either ;) ).

You should get some Tang, it went to the moon with the astronauts, so it has to be good stuff. I bet NASA paid more for it then what a Sebenza cost  :p . You do need to be careful when you get a can of the Tang, if the stockboy took it apart and put it back together it might have the bilateral horizontal and verical blade play in it ;)

My first small Sebbie, had a few larger ones. Fit and finish is of amazing quality like usual from Mr. and Mrs. Reeve. The design is awesome. This is a CPM-S30V model (not a BG-42) and the bevel is nice but not Spyderco sharp. Mind you, it's still plenty sharp and the sharpness is probably controlled from the factory. It is a sturdy knife no doubt with no blade play whatsoever but IMO nearly as rugged as my Chinook and just not easy access enough. But I am a die hard G10 junkee so I am biased. With each framelock knife I get, it grows on me as it is a strong and almost always 'failsafe' lock.

Blade design is great for EDC although the Bowie has become my favorite as a doubler for SD and utility. I can't say much on edge retention but it is S30V and a nice hollow grind so it is probably excellent. For care, CRK reccomends using the Sharpmaker exclusively.

I am not going to be using this knife myself however...it is a gift for a close friend comming back from Iraq who really loves Sebenzas. The Stars and Stripes just makes sense and is an awesome design. Could I see myself owning one? If they continue production in CPM-S30V, yes. Very, very nice knife, although not exactly my piece of cake.
