I must admit, coming late to the Spyderco game I was not too familiar with the lil' temp. This thread piqued my curiosity and after digging around, the lil' temp looks like a great folder, with a ton of thought put into it. I'm excited to see what the new iteration brings!

Can you please make it slightly under 3" blade so it's legal to carry more places?sal wrote:I would like to discuss the handle of the Lil' Temperance. I have a design for a "2" version, but I've softened the finger grooves to a curved underside more like the Stretch2.
Some have indicated, like Ken, that the original shape should be maintained. Since we value the opinions of our customers, we try to peel back the design / preference part of the envelope.
While it is a very purpose built dedsign, the advantages of the Lil'Temperance design are:
3" Lil' Temperance blade
legal in most areas
Long enough for most tasks
Wide for strength at the length
Very high blade length / cutting edge ratio
versatile leaf shape
Large (14mm) thumb hole
Handle:
strong wide guards to pevent sliding forward on blade
Broad width for secure grip
Ergonomic for comfort, and long term use
Compression lock
Strong and reliable
Ambidextrous
light
Negatives that were discussed in a prior thread
Finger grooves make handle too wide for easy carry
Finger grooves limit grips
Clip needed to be improved
The new handle shape
is more universal
Will accomodate more grips
I would like to use the new handle shape, and a Superhawk tip up left/right wire clip. We are still in question about the dimples in the handle.
I'd like to make a short run with the same blade shape. 3mm thick instead of 4mm. Full flat VG-10. G-10 handle, black and foliage green.
We are still in question about serrations.
If the model is well received, we'll consider an FRN version like the Endura4, Delica4, Stretch2.
Before we begin the new prototype, I would like you to share your thoughts.

Never mistake kindness for weakness.
The first Lil' Temps made were 3 1/8". The last Lil' Temps produced were just under 3" The new one will be close to 3" not 2". Careful, Blerv, you were about to start a panic with that rumor.Blerv wrote:If you head back to the first couple pages I think it is in that sub 3" range.
I recall it being closer to 2" which would make it a good MBC rated tool in stringent cities.
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

I can't believe I fixated on that one part. Lol.
Glad I'm wrong! Hope nobody had to go to the ER. :)

I wouldn't buy one with less than 3.5" blade length.

Just my opinion man don't mean to attack you, but I think the 3" is perfect for the Little Temperance 2, unless you are looking for more of a defensive blade. almost everyone with the exception of paranoids and anti-tool people accept the 3 incher as not dangerous.chuck_roxas45 wrote:I wouldn't buy one with less than 3.5" blade length.
One thing sal! Could you call it Little instead of Lil'? :P Lil' sound so stupid. :D

No offense taken man. :D . I just think heavily built folders with blades under 3.5" are a redundancy. Small folders are usually used for light tasks. Unless of course, they are to be used for SD in places with length restrictions.

Well, it always will be the lawful and peaceloving citizens that suffer with the depredations of the anti-social crowd.
Hey, that sounds so pompous. :D
