>>Point is, "insider trading" is like a "rigged election" ( remember the 2000 Vote?)<<

Yes, I remember the 2000 vote. Despite the Democrats culling and reculling every district in Florida they thought would yield them more votes, and their attempt to block the counting of overseas military absentee ballots that would have likely favored the Republicans, in the end George Bush was found to have more votes in Florida that Al Gore and thus he won the election.

Get over it.

The verdict's in ( 6:30PM EST )

Guilty on four counts

1.) Obstruction of justice

2.) Conspiracy

3.) Making false statements (perjury)

4.) Making false statements (perjury)

Check out the FBI's website :

www.fbi.gov/page2/page2archive.htm

They have yesterday's page you can access
that also shows Enron, Worldcom, McKesson &
Rite Aid ( NOT for drug dealing!)

The loses to their respective companies were staggering ( in the BILLIONS ) and guess who's gonna "foot the bill" ( loss )?

The shareholders ( and in the case of places
like Rite Aid ) YOU!

And, one more thing...

Remember. She was convicted of 4 counts of lying to federal officials. Nothing to do with insider trading.

Despite all my efffort to resist posting on this I just can't help it .
Martha because of her celeb status and her vast fortune was given an unfair edge that any of us wouldn't have.
Insider trading is aginst the law either way you look at it, and let's admit it now although she wasn't convicted of that charge we all know the deal.
She dumped her stock on a tip from her broker, then lied about it to the court system.
NO she didn't ruin many peoples lives, save her broker and possibly hers, like the deal we are going through here in South Carolina with the current Carolina investors scandal.
1000s of people lost their life savings (most elderly) working people just like you and I.
IMO this is much worse than what Martha did, but! for the legal system in this country to work it has to be applied to everyone the same.
I don't own alot of stock, some shares in Bellsouth and a few others.
But you can't have several different sets of rules to suite who you are and how much **** money you have.
I think she will do about 2-3 years on the charges she was convicted of and she **** well SHOULD.
The only thing I hate about it was the very good scotch I wasted when I heard she would be working in Federal prison for the average wage of 12 cents an hour when it came through my nose laughing .
She needs to be made an example of and I think she will.
Who knows maybe she will develope good taste in knives in the Federal Pen . Ron

Ron/sc_rebel :

Yeah, my "take" on the "law" & courts throughout the U.S. is that they use the
so-called "object lesson" ( i.e. example )
to try to "drive a message home".

Give ya' another example :

The RICO statute ( the brainchild of Law Professor G. Robert Blakey ) which, AOBTW,
CAN be used against "white collar" criminals
( i.e. "racketeering" -or- "corrupt organisations" part of the acronyms' namesake ) while it HAS defeated the mafia
to a great extent at the higher echelons, it's sucess rate as a whole is dismal ( against the lower level of "soldiers" )& because of the high taxpayer cost of bringing a RICO case, they ( the Feds )use
things like "The Commission" & "Pizza connection" as "object lesson(s)" against the multitudes of mobsters. Oft they'll
make a "soldier" turn against his "boss"
( witness Sammy "the Bull" Gravano in the case of the late John Gotti ) to give the
chimera that RICO is effective.

The reality, if one went "behind the scenes"
is quite different.

Indeed, Martha is but one "object lesson".

Will this ultimetely stop "insider trading"?
Or perjury? It'll at best, reduce it ( is the hope of prosecutors ) But I disagree she is the sole example, Enron, Rite Aid, McKesson, HealthSouth, etc. have had their indictments.

Why no high profile news for them?

They aren't as high profile ( in other words
on the TV daily ) as Martha S. was!

"Keep your head low!"
