Do you keep the boxes? Poll
Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
Why not? Rarely have more than a couple of folders out at a time and it's a convenient way to store them. The South Fork box is really massive though, thought about ditching that and the mule box. The fixed blades never get put away :)

Yes, I keep them
I keep them even though I rarely ever sell a knife. Store the empty ones in a plastic box that fit under my bed, so they're out of the way. Some hold duplicates and spares, and those I keep in a drawer. The empties definitely came in handy when I moved. Individually bubble wrapping the few dozen older ones that didn't come with boxes took longer than boxing up the several hundred that did, or at least it seemed to.

Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
I agree, I love the Edge-U-Cation sheets or sometimes the little fold out pamphlets. I have one or two that came empty and it is kind of a bummer. They're like the knife's way of telling you its story, and when one comes without it it's as if it wasn't special enough to even have a story, like it's just a dumb knife. But I know that's not truetimlara wrote: I enjoy the little "Edge-U-Cation" papers that come with them and always feel a little bummed when I get a model without one. I carry all my knives, so I can't really ever re-sell them as "new in box", but for the few that I do sell, I think it makes the listing stand out if you do still have the box.

I've never sold a knife, and at this point don't see myself ever doing so. I too use all my knives (some more than others) so I don't keep the boxes for resale purposes either. It's weird, I really can't explain why I keep them. I don't keep the knives in the boxes, yet it's like their home and the one without a box (Endura 1) seems sad and confused...incomplete if you will. Whatever silly reason I have, they're small enough that there's really no reason not to keep them. Except for that unnecessarily large Mule Team box. What's up with that?

I know the pamphlet you're talking about Payne>> I've also kept all the mini-catalogs that came with most of the late 90s Spyderco folders that came in the box itself>> along with that "edge'U" Cation' leaflet you speak of.PayneTrain wrote:I agree, I love the Edge-U-Cation sheets or sometimes the little fold out pamphlets. I even kept all the little Spyderco games and lapel pins I got at the shows as well. I still have the ATR & Dodo pins from 2004.
I still have the Spyderco mouse pad which is one of the very first Spyderco items I won on fleabay back in 02. It's still in the sealed plastic bag it came in. I bet you don't see many of those around. Not to mention the Jot Singh Khalsa poster with the WTC buildings in the background  It was a dealer promotion for the first run of the original C-40 Khalsa model.

Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
You absolutely must keep the boxes. That's the only way to tell when the knife was made. I buy sell and trade knives on the Case Forum and have actually had people get back in touch complaining about a warranty paper missing. Keep the box and everything that came in it even the plastic sleeve the knife was in
Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
Yes, only because if I do sell a knife, many buyers prefer to have the box. And, I suppose it helps justify a slightly better price, especially if the knife is in excellent condition. Otherwise, it's kind of a pain to keep them all (I've been a knife addict for a long time). Mike

Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
If I buy new I keep the box in case I ever need to sell the knife. Even though when I get a new one I say oh I'll never sell this, but there's always the chance of something else or a need for cash so I make sure to keep them. That being said, I will buy knives without boxes, especially if I plan to make them users or give them away to a friend that I know won't care but be appreciative of the knife.
Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
I used to... until i decided to shred them using a Spydie as the stockpile was getting huge with those xxl fixed blades boxes.
All my knives have been used, scratched, sharpened and i dont plan to sell any so i stopped to care about boxes.

Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
Yes, I keep them all, not just Spydie boxes, along with all paperwork / baggies, etc that came with them.
I used to think I'd never sell a knife - then had a major life change and it became necessary to let go of roughly 75% of my collection (you never know) … so I was really glad I kept everything.
I have boxes of boxes, and then a separate box for duplicate / rare knives, which are stored in their original boxes.
Slowly rebuilding the collection now, but some things I will never be able to replace … such is life. But it's interesting to me how my selection of what I will buy and when has changed since I got "humbled" …

Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
I keep all the boxes. I include a copy of the receipt and store it in the box. I have a spreadsheet of every knife I've purchased, from whom, date, price paid, condition (when applicable) and where it was produced. I also have columns on my spreadsheet for sell price and date sold. Knives that aren't in rotation are in their respective box in master storage bin(s). 12 knives are in the rotation at any given time and stored in a 12 slot nylon storage pack. I have yet to sell a knife but I do keep the boxes :).......

"D*#n the torpedoes!"
We've got at least a couple of brothers on here who use their boxes to test their edges on...
Remember those guys?
They kinda remind me of "The Most Interesting Man in the World"

Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
So far I have kept all my boxes.
Not sure why since all my knives are users that will in no way be able to be sold as NIB. I am not a big sell my stuff kinda person but who knows. I would hate to want to sell one of the knives that has not been used much and not have it.
Plus like was already said they do not take up much room.........yet.

On my radar: 110V Military, Police 4 and some sweet Rex 45 Military action.
Newest Spydies: S90v Ti Military, Pacific Salt and a special Kiwi.

99.9% of my knives, I kept the box. Only knife I don't have the box for is my Titanium Lava. I misplaced it somewhere during a move.
I go as far as always ordering two Sprints of steels I really like, particularly SB, and only take one out of the package. The other is kept fresh, untouched :p

Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
The only boxes I do not have are for the knives that I have purchased used. Otherwise I keep all boxes for the information that they provide, and if I trade or sell a knife it is cool to pass it along to the next owner. I take really good care of my knives and to me keeping the box is part of the value when they are traded or sold. I know for a fact that most people appreciate the box, even if a knife is used from my experience and to be honest i have become accustomed to recieving the original packaging when purchasing or trading a knife as well.
Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
Couldn't vote because my answer is Yes and No. I keep boxes for the knives I haven't used or have only used lightly. Once I decide I will not be selling a given knife the box is pitched in the trash.
Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
I keep all Spyderco boxes but only 3 or 4 are used, for storing unused knives. I'm sort of an information freak and like to keep the original source of the information. I also keep about three sheets of info on each knife stapled together, usually an invoice, the info page from the seller, and hopefully a page with a picture of the knife (usually not the actual knife in hand). On the top page I pencil in the date ordered, date received, price paid, and shipping charge if any. These all go, numbered in order bought, into a large paper folder with pockets which are about to burst now :p :D :spyder:
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.

Re: Do you keep the boxes? Poll
I save my boxes as well. I've bought Spydies from individuals that didn't have the boxes for them. Even though they were in new condition I would have preferred they came in the box.
