Techno. Fits in watch pocket perfectly.
Re: Favorite Out-on-the-town knife?
I feel lucky to have three gent's folders from Spyderco that see "out on the town" time: a Bradley Air, Dragonfly ZDP189 w/ Black Nishijin Scales, and a Des Horn.
Of those three, I grab:
-the Dragonfly if I'm likely to be doing utilitarian tasks, such as cutting zip ties, breaking down boxes after a wedding or something.
-the Air, if I'm in a suit and want my knife to ... disappear.
-the Des Horn, if I want the extra blade length and increased chances of getting a compliment. (I've had more people notice the Des Horn! It is wayyy more sexy in person than it comes across in photos.)

I've yet to snag a DES HORN but it's one my rapidly growing want list and it reminds me of 2 of my all time favorite knife designs>> One being Spyderco's oldie Centofante C-50 model PE & SE and the other being my old stand by Phil Bogoszewski Spike. But the Des Horn is sure designed along the same lines as the 2 I aforementioned>> it's a very functional design and elegant too.Barkdog wrote:I feel lucky to have three gent's folders from Spyderco that see "out on the town" time: a Bradley Air, Dragonfly ZDP189 w/ Black Nishijin Scales, and a Des Horn

I had my JD Smith SE at a get together last night I showed it off a bit and 2 guys really envied it greatly  I love those cool streamlined, pointy blades.

Another vote here for the Stealth Chaparral, although I'm mostly in jeans and a t shirt when I'm "out on the town" so I roll with whatever edc I've chosen at the time. My town is not fancy. Although it IS fond of hyperbolic claims.

I need to get a new one (lost my beloved), but it's kind of nice when I know I won't need anything larger than a Dragonfly, and carry that with me. It's light enough to forget about yet useful enough to tackle pretty much any job.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.
Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

when i got married i was carrying my Calypso Junior with black micarta, that is a really classic and elegant blade.
the blades that get the most wow factor from my friends would be the Domino and the Military(Cru-wear)

Can only carry something small:
Re: Favorite Out-on-the-town knife?
Brother you got a great example there for sure>> I've always wondered why they didn't do more of those Calypso Juniors in jazzy handles>> that Micarta Caly Jr. truly was a class act and a super gentlemen's knife any way you look at it. I've also thought that a Caly Jr with one of the better Carbon Fiber handles would have sold like cheap ciggarettes :eek:Enigma wrote:when i got married i was carrying my Calypso Junior with black micarta, that is a really classic and elegant blade.

It always kind of perplexed me why they didn't take the ZDP-189 Caly Jr. models and do them with more exotic handles like Titanium fluted or a nice looking Micarta or maybe even this newer nishijin in flashy color schemes.
Not only did they have a potential barn burner with the Caly Junior I bet if they did a Sprint Run of that C-27 jigged bone Jess Horn model in that original handle along with black onyx, mother of pearl or even sambar stag they wouldn't be able to keep them on the shelves I'm sure of it >> Truly they had a potentially huge, untapped gentlemen's knife market with even a couple of their other small to mid sized models that they overlooked IMO>> and it still could be exploited given the right circumstances and good marketing strategy.
Re: Favorite Out-on-the-town knife?
+1 for the Calypso jr. micarta, but sometimes I carry for this purpose the C42 Viele, the C56 Zowada Micarta or one of my two C22 Klötzli Walkers.
Re: Favorite Out-on-the-town knife?
Brother Marcus you and I are so much on the same page knife-wise that it frankly scares me in a good way :D I just mentioned on a thread last night how much attention that the Viele model deserves but rarely gets any  The C-56 Zowada has been a super favorite Spyder of mine for almost 10 years now>> I got desperate about 2 years ago and ended up selling my CF Zowada to one of my bosses>> he is fanatical about it too and shows it off all the time  and gives me no credit whatsoever and I'm the one that introduced him to the model :rolleyes:MarcusH wrote:+1 for the Calypso jr. micarta, but sometimes I carry for this purpose the C42 Viele, the C56 Zowada Micarta or one of my two C22 Klötzli Walkers.
You know how much I love the Spyderedged JD Smith and you know that first hand>> but very close to it is the Spyderedged Viele  But I hope it comforts you to know that I'll be carrying my SE JD Smith this evening at a dinner I'm supposed to attend.
I'm not too crazy about the Walker/Spyderco/Klotzli collaboration but I am a huge fan of many of Klotzli blades out of Switzerland  Hey I'm a Spyder-head first but I know quality when I see it and Klotzli has been one of my favorite knife companys for almost a decade as well. They have a model that looks much like Spyderco's Des Horn with a CF Handle and black blade but I even like it better I'm afraid

For going out on the town>> I must have a full PE and a full SE Both and both made by the Great Spyder Factory thank you very much.
