A Tale of Two Spidies (PM2 and YO2)

Here are some pics of my recently acquired Paramilitary 2 and Yojimbo 2 as well as a story that goes along with them.

First off I'm not new to knives or Spyderco's in general but I have never really had a collection, just EDC's that I depended on. In 2008 I bought my first Spyderco, a DLC coated Military. Around that same time I also bought a beater plain-jane Delica which I used with me while I was a Plumber's Apprentice and I still have it to this day. I really liked the Military, carried it for about 3 years, and then sorta got bored of it and sold it to a friend. I then bought a Benchmade 940, which I have carried ever since and has been my favorite knife to date.

A few months ago my cousin picked up a Sage 3 Titanium and showed it to me. I was extremely impressed with the overall quality of the knife and it got me thinking about backing up the 940 with another high end EDC. After a bunch of youtube videos and forum searching, I decided to take a chance and pull the trigger on the Paramilitary 2. I was immediately impressed with how smooth it was and how easy it was to flip open and closed thanks to the extremely functional compression lock.

As the days went on and I started falling in love with how effectively designed the PM2 was and I started thinking about getting another Spyderco as the addiction was coming in at full force. Enter the YO2. I was intrigued by it's unique design, purpose, and most of all the fact that it shared the same, outstanding compression lock as the PM2. I really like the YO2 as well, it seems to carry a little bit better for me because the tip of the handle is slimmer. It is a tiny bit stiffer than the PM2 and the detent is stronger as well. My only gripe is that the spyder hole is smaller making deployment take slightly more effort but I would imagine Michael Janich designed it like this on purpose.

Overall, I am very pleased with these two extremely high quality, USA made blades. I'm sure they will last years to come just like my 940. It is also interesting to see how much further Spyderco has come since 2008 because I feel like the quality of these two knives is much better than that of my older Military.

Welcome to the forum, and nice knives. I really trust the compression lock a lot. Pinches my finger when I open it, but I can live with that. Enjoy your Spydercos.
- best wishes, Jazz.
