I mistakenly chose option #1 without really thinking through what was being said. I love the dino-jimping that can be found on the early stainless Stretch (my CF/ZDP Stretch has traditional Spydie jimping) as well as the Chinook II, etc. Personally though, the option #2 is the best jimping ever and the early Military models are the best examples of this jimping style, IMHO

Hmmm....I wonder how BD1 does with serrations?
There are some cracks showing in that SE armor David! You will be seduced back to the long, straight lines of the PE soon enough, it's a siren song that can't be ignored! Give in to the dark side... ;)

I don't know. I guess I like it fine, and not too aggressive. I've never held an early Military so I really can't say how I'd like it, but I suppose it's similar to the Southard and I like that. I'm going to say my Delica has the best jimping, as it's fine but not too sharp.

Now I love the Native 1, but that square jimping is just dangerous. The jimping on my brown XHP exclusive has cut me...twice! Maybe it's just that version, or maybe just my particular example, but it's so rough and unfinished that it'll cut me if I put my hand in my pocket the wrong way. I'd grab it for a picture, but I've just been chosen as my dog's bed for the night.

I used my knives mostly for EDC; rarely do I do any "hard use" chores. I like the "fine" jimping such as on the Stretch & PM2 best; I feel like it gives just enough traction for my hand without being rough or uncomfortable.
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Need a option for upper and lower jimping.

Fine for the bottom all the time.
Upper for 2.5" fine, for over 2.5" then course.

Looking at my two C95 Lockbacks, I have to say that I like the old-school jimping more.

No poll 'honorable mention' for the blade widening 'Cobra Hood' bolt-on jimped section, as fitted to the Salsa and ATR?

For shame sir! :D

Agree with you on that, I'm liking the jimping on my Manix's a lot also these days.

I like the fine retrorse jimping on the choils and thumb ramps of the PM2, Caly, Dragonfly, etc. (Retrorse means backward-pointing -- a good six-bit word Sal could use in catalog descriptions ;) ) But I don't like the fine continuation of it inside the G-10. To me the flat, smooth area behind the thumb ramp on the Caly and PM1 is more comfortable than that on the PM2 and Manix2. And I wish the Manix2 and XL didn't have that coarse jimping (or any kind) on the liners. I really like knives that feel smooth and comfortable in hand. This sort of near-subliminal discomfort sometimes makes me tend to pass over a knife for EDC without really knowing why.

It even took me a little while to get used to the grippy G-10 and bi-directional FRN pattern on most of the knives I love. But I appreciated it a little more the other day when I tried to open my slick Ti-Damascus Delica with a wet hand.

I agree that the coarse castellated jimping on the Native 1 is dangerous, but that's the only thing I don't like about the comfort and ergonomics of that knife. It feels better in hand to me than the Native5 (sorry, Roman :o ).
I think there are maybe 2 possible reasons for the liner jimping, etc, 1) the idea that a safe grip in an emergency, maybe when wearing gloves, or worse yet, with blood on your hands, trumps a little everyday discomfort (but I almost never wear gloves in this climate) or 2) maybe a selling point or feature the competition might not be able to claim.
K-390 on hand: Mule Team 17, Police 4 G-10, Endela (burlap micarta), Endela backup, Endura (canvas micarta), Straight Stretch (now blade-swapped with G-10 Stretch), Delica Wharncliffe, Dragonfly Wharncliffe, & Dragonfly Wharncliffe shorty mod
Note to self: Less is more.
