Acknowledging if i gonna use it... Sometimes it is just because the design or the steel/sprint

I do use all my knives, most decisions is based on good reviews (dont have local store), maybe the hype on forums too.

Old Delica's and Endura's, G2 and Aus8 steel with the thick/wide molded clip. PE,CE,SE... I buy just about every NIB one I come across if the price is reasonable and occasionally used ones if in really good shape. I have a fairly sizable collection of them and carry one(usually a Delica) everyday and likely will for the rest of my life.

As time passes, I find myself more and more interested in small knives that punch well above their weight.

A zdp dragonfly is on the list...

As bearfacedkiller mentioned, it's simply an availability of funds issue. I have slowed my collecting as of late, mainly because I am running out of models that I really want/must have and am basically just awaiting new releases. When I do see something I don't have, I often get the bug to grab every variety (sprint/exclusive) of it before moving on to another model. Another thing that always gets me are pics on this forum and BF of models I don't have paired with one I do have. And that d@m^ Spydiewiki, aka my personal shopping assistant ;)!

Hey DougC-3, did you recently pick up that pilot Manix 2 off eBay? I was watching that one - it got relisted several times after I picked up its FFG friend here ;) Cheers, Radioactive :)

Yes, I did. I just noticed it the next to the last time it was listed and thought it would go for much more than I would want to pay. It slipped my mind and closed before I even saw the highest bid. I paid more attention when it was relisted and was surprised that it didn't get more interest. I thought it might be because hollow ground knives have sort of fallen out of favor now. It was listed as used, but the seller said it was never carried or used, and it appeared new. It would be nice to have both the FFG and the HG. These things must be among the rarest spydies around, with only about 25 of each made. I really like the stone-washed finish and would like to find one in FFG :D

People are reducing what makes them pull the trigger to one word, like "practicality" or "funds." I guess my one word answer would be "lust" :p

Yeah, I am surprised that knife lasted as long as it did on eBay. It must have been up for about a month before you grabbed it. Definitely one of the rare ones in my collection, technically more so than any other sprint or exclusive out there. Any other of our fellow forumites have one of these pilots?

"Funds" BTW are what's keeping the "lust" in check. Ain't that always how it goes? ;)

I dunno...seems to me that lust usually keeps the funds in check.

I'm also very curious as to whether any other forumites have one of these pilots. I'd never heard of them until I saw this one on eBay then checked the spydiewiki. I'd like to know the whole story behind them.

I think the lust/funds relationship usually works like this:

FUNDS ----LUST----> FUNDS ;) :D

Anything Taichung has my attention.

New steels like S110V, 10V, S90V/CPM154 composite, etc.

Innovative handle material and finishes like on the Rubicon, Chaparral Stepped Titanium and Military & Native Fluted Titanium, etc.

Collaborations.

Absolutely anything Taichung has my attention as well. And sometimes price plays a part. In this case price and Taichung. Got a really good deal on a new Brown Southard.

I try to find a specific use for most purchases these days, since I have general EDC covered pretty well. Beyond that, a lot of it is a combination of aesthetics, steel, and ergos. If those thing think click then I'll usually find a reason to buy it. I'm holding out on the Kiwi 4 in hopes of a ZDP model, and then that knife will be used for light dress or when more concealed carry is needed. Impulse has also got the best of me from time to time.

That's my answer; Lust. Pure, unadulterated lust.

Practicality doesn't factor much into my folder purchases these days. I go for designs that turn me on mainly, but I do factor in ergos, deployment and carry. But really, if it was just practicality I was after then I would buy a Delica instead of that Rubicon I am lusting so hard for right now.
