Lol :D that was fasteldiablojoe wrote:**** you guys and **** this place!!!! I am now *still* drooling for more Spydercos. I almost pulled the trigger on the KW Worker sprint run, if only the blade were black.
I am really wiping my chin over the bayou shooter Emerson. Finding one is a bit of a hunt. I still really like the salts/rescues for their utilities too.  Arghhhh!!!
FreshEddieFresh, My Malkoff is def a HoundDog2 XM-L, Neutral. I configured it for two 18650's cells. It is 1000 OTF, 900+ sustained. I'm sorry, I mixed up the stats with the Cool which is 1100 OTF. I JUST shipped it back to Gene last week to get the body reamed out for a slightly increased inner diameter. The cells are really hard to get out. While he's got it there, I asked him to hold onto it and not ship it back until the EDC li-ion HA 's are ready so I can combine shipping :)

I run my XML2 Neutral the same way (I am a Malkoff junkie, I have four different Hound Dogs) and the batteries are not too bad, although I do hear about batteries getting stuck if the labels are thick on some brands of batteries.eldiablojoe wrote:FreshEddieFresh, My Malkoff is def a HoundDog2 XM-L, Neutral. I'm guessing your Spyderco collection is going to grow fast... may I suggest the blacked out Manix2 next? Excellent bang for the buck.

Geez Eddie, you DO like your Malkoff's! 4 Houndogs, geez.Well, I know how awesome they are. Best torch on earth, hand's down!
I had the original generation Endura. I have the original generation knife sharpener (still with $29.99 price tag on it, haha!), I have a stainless police model (I believe), I just ordered that Native, now I am buying an Endura with Emerson BayouShooter edition... I think the bug (spyder, in this case) has bit me :-/

Re: Best Law Enforcement knife?
I know cops who carry Endura 4 Emerson Openers on their weak side with tip up and blade forward. The plan is draw forward into reverse grip. Application is that the strong side is defending attempted gun grab and weak side can now cut attacker's arm off of gun grab.
Also can serve as a utility knife, of course.

A truly profound statement. I love how we have all these different designs and steels and lock types, and we just happen to also use all of them as utility knives. You know...also.JohnAPA wrote:Also can serve as a utility knife, of course.

I would go on the forums and find an all black citadel. Fast deployment since its an auto. Handles have pretty good grip. Bulkier knife fits good in hand evan with a glove on.

Re: Best Law Enforcement knife?
I'll disagree. I retired in 2008. I was a range master/defensive knife tactics instructor/emt. My last asignment was SWAT (6.5 years). I used my knife on duty more than my gun. Yes, I did use my gun. Unfortunately, I have had to use my knife defensively. However, I mostly needed a knife a first responder. I had knives fail on duty. It's not fun. I always taught to carry a reliable knife. The importance of LEOs carrying a good knife is we actually use them to save lives. I can read alot by the type of gear an Officer carries. The LEOs with good knives, flash lights, firearms are the ones that train hard both physically and mentally. FWIW. YMMV. Be safe.
Re: Best Law Enforcement knife?
I carry a knife all the time, right in the front of my duty belt. I used to carry only a pocket knife clipped to my BDU style cargo pockets. I've gotten in several harsh scraps before and never stabbed anyone because I quite simply didn't think about it. I was too wrapped up or too busy throwing fists and knees to grab my knife, flick it open, and use it as a weapon. Too much stuff going on to do otherwise. In a situation like that, even with all the training, its hard enough to remember to draw your firearm and shoot it, let alone accurately.
Having said this out of experience, I now make it a point to carry a small fixed blade right in the front, less mechanical actions are better. And as far as cutting seatbelts, breaking windows, and whatnot? Yeah, a fixed blade is better for that, too, unless you have time to grab the knife and open it, but time is such a luxury that can rarely be afforded. So my choice is a small fixed blade with at least moderately tough steel that can handle some prying and pounding and that requires the least amount of thought to use. If someone is on top of you pounding your face in, a folding knife will be the last thing you grab to defend yourself. Ask me how I know. Nevermind, don't ask, I don't feel like talking about that stuff too much unless tactics and theories can be physically shown and worked through to and with people who understand a no ****, life or death reaction when there's no thought, only instincts guiding your hands. I've learned that the hard way.
So, a folder to handle cutting bundles and seats and tires and seatbelts and scraping and other random daily things. A fixed blade within easy reach for other duties, including as a last ditch weapon, that can handle pounding the butt against compartments or windows or random metal or bondo or trailer latches or whatever.
Anyway, hope the advice helps!

I agree you fixed blade is the way to go. Gross motor skill, less muscle memory, faster. My department went through a PC period were folders were permitted and fixed blades were not in policy. Stupid. Years later, the department decided a tactical mindset was more condusive to Officer safety. Fixed blades began to be carried again.
The funiest one for me was bad guy pulls a knife on me. I have distance but he is watching my primary weapon. On the left side, I had a CS large voyager I was testing. I grabbed it and did an inertia opening. Bad guy is now fixated on the blade. Of course, I then show him my Glock 21 and some hand cuffs.

Re: Best Law Enforcement knife?
So you have 3 hands? (CS Voyager, glock&cuffs?). Honestly, just my opinion, you were taking a heckuva chance pulling a knife on a perp that already had a knife drawn on you. Makes me wander what kind of policies y'all have. There's no way in Hades I'm drawing out a folding knife on a perp that has one already on me. I don't care what distance I had. 20feet is far enough (and legal btw) I'm going with the pistol 110% of the time. Just my 2centsdragonram7 wrote:I agree you fixed blade is the way to go. I wish we always had 21 feet. In the real word of close quarters-well it'd be nice. Most officers can't draw in 1 sec, even with practice. I used the knife as a distraction to create the time. He was waiitng for the draw. As LEOs, our disadvantage is we are usually reacting defensively. Granted SWAT is a more offensive posture.

27 years in PATROL and CID LE and I have never cut a seat belt and never cut down a hanging victim. I know these are commonly stated reasons but this is just my experience...YMMV...
Carry Enduras on duty and likely adding a Matriarch2 to the mix... Off duty Delica in pants pocket and Endura in vest or coat pocket.

Endura and Delica are probably the OPs answer. I have cut a seat belt or two, clothing (first responder), flex cuff, em monitors. Let us know how you like the matriach. The hawkbill seems to have certain advantages with cutting any of the above mentioned. Let us know if you get it. Be safe.

I had a buddy cut two babies and their dad out of an upside down burning vehicle. I've had to break windows out to extract people several times. Good times.

Hi, Though its been mentioned already... I couldn't resist popping in to vote for the manix2. Its available in the black combo blade, or several other varieties. After reading some of the other post about uses while on duty, I would go with something more robust that an FRN knife. I have had a manix2 hollow ground combo in s30v for a year, I'll never be without one. If it came down to it i'd say you could pry a car door open and then cut the belts. Not to mention a 100$ price point caged ball bearing lock which works like a dream with gloves, perfect knife for LEO, anyone really... :)
