Re: I miss the old forum.
Only my phone cuts off the pictures...my laptop and desktop both have loaded pictures fine since the day of the switch. There has to be something you can do to solve the issue (I don't know what it is, but there has to be a fix...maybe someone knows how and can chime in).Surfingringo wrote:im really tired of looking at half cut off pictures.

I'm using a laptop with Windows 8 and have the same problem with the pictures.

What is your screen resolution? My old, cheap, low-res tablet cuts off the pictures, but my desktop unit doesn't. I have a feeling it is related to the screen resolution being too low on the tablet.remnar wrote:I'm using a laptop with Windows 8 and have the same problem with the pictures.

My ipad has a "retina display". I Can't tell u exactly what that is but it's definitely not low res.yablanowitz wrote:Surfingringo wrote:Fwiw I am using an Apple iPad....in case anyone has come up with a solution.3rdGenRigger wrote:Only my phone cuts off the pictures...my laptop and desktop both have loaded pictures fine since the day of the switch. You've got a point there, Surfingringo. The pics I see are all pretty much cut off to the right of the screen--regardless if I'm using my Galaxy S5 or my desktop.Surfingringo wrote:im really tired of looking at half cut off pictures.

Re: I miss the old forum.
I don't think the screen resolution is the problem. The laptop is fairly new and I haven't had any other problems like this. I will say that I hate Windows 8, so for now that's what I'll blame. :rolleyes:yablanowitz wrote:Surfingringo wrote:Fwiw I am using an Apple iPad....in case anyone has come up with a solution.3rdGenRigger wrote:Only my phone cuts off the pictures...my laptop and desktop both have loaded pictures fine since the day of the switch. Re: I miss the old forum.
I'm with you there. When the power company killed my computer a few months ago, I ran on my old Alienware laptop until I could buy a new computer. After two days of Windows 8.1, I repaired my old computer, so I have a nearly new machine back in its box, gathering dust.remnar wrote:I don't think the screen resolution is the problem. Re: I miss the old forum.
If I could just get the user avatar and info back on the left like every other forum I frequent and get rid of the spammers I'd deal with the rest. I only get cut off pics on my phone.

Re: I miss the old forum.
It may not be screen resolution, but it's not something that happens with all browsers on all platforms either. I have no problems on any of my three machines as long as the photo is narrower than the browser window. On my two desktops that means that as long as they're under 1920 wide they display just fine regardless of what browser I'm using. Same on my laptop if they're under 1600 wide. Almost all photos posted here are narrower than that, 1024 X 768 still seems to be the "standard". The few that are larger that 1920 X 1200 are almost always hosted on services that, if I open the photo itself in a separate tab, it scales to the browser size and can be zoomed to full size and scrolled.remnar wrote:I don't think the screen resolution is the problem. Computing, for better or worse, seems to be headed to two opposite extremes. Folks are either using huge hi res monitors, or dinky little cell phone and tablet screens. Makes it kind of hard to please everyone.

Re: I miss the old forum.
That's kind of the opposite of what I see happening Paul. I see a continual shift from those big high res screens to mid size tablets. I don't know, time will tell. In the meantime though there are certainly enough folks having this issue (on pc's, macs, tablets and phones) that this is obviously an issue with this forum software and not the "computing" industry at large. Every other forum I use manages to get this right. We wouldn't make excuses for Spyderco if they made a knife that was as buggy as this software. I know this whole shift was a ton of work for Spyderco and Kristi and I appreciate all the effort it takes to keep a forum up and running for us, but let's call a spade a spade. Ok, that's enough out of me. Sorry for the mini rant. The Deacon wrote:It may not be screen resolution, but it's not something that happens with all browsers on all platforms either. Re: I miss the old forum.
I am dealing with the problem by adjusting my resolution before posting my pictures. I have Google Drive host almost all of my photos now because I can adjust the resolution easily within the URl before I post it here (or other forums). When I post from work it scales the URL based on the monitor I am using. It will scale my pictures to 1500 X 840 if I use my 1920 x 1080 monitor (my main), but if the browser is open on one of my other 2 monitors, it down-scales the pictures. When I post here and go home to my laptop the pictures are cut off. I have found 1200 to 1300 in width seems to work for all my devices. I agree this is frustrating at times, especially because we don't see this with the other vbulletin hosted forms. I am sure that Kristi and crew will resolve this when they get around to it.

I find the new multiple quotation easier, especially when referring to quotes form multiple pages.bh49 wrote:+1 Hate this.Evil D wrote:If I could just get the user avatar and info back on the left like every other forum I frequent and get rid of the spammers I'd deal with the rest.

Really? How does it work? I haven't figured out how to selectively use multiple quotes.xceptnl wrote:I find the new multiple quotation easier, especially when referring to quotes form multiple pages.bh49 wrote:+1 Hate this.Evil D wrote:If I could just get the user avatar and info back on the left like every other forum I frequent and get rid of the spammers I'd deal with the rest.

Re: I miss the old forum.
Select the first quote and it automatically takes you to the "Post Reply" page with that chosen quote already in place. Then scroll down to see all responses to the thread in reverse order so that you can select others to be added to your response. Easier than the old system when you have replies from pages upon pages past. This is especially easier now since we can't control the number of posts displayed per page.Surfingringo wrote:Really? Gotcha. Thanks! Guess I had just never scrolled down and seen that!xceptnl wrote:Select the first quote and it automatically takes you to the "Post Reply" page with that chosen quote already in place.
