Fastest Deploying Spydie?

I have been intrigued by the T-Mag, although I'm a bit concerned about inadvertently killing my smartphone or wiping my flash drive with that neodymium magnet...

You can usually find one on the secondary market at a good price, if you have patience...

I do not carry mine, nor would I...

It's detent in the open (& closed) position is not strong enough for my uses...

However I keep it in my top dresser drawer just to admire, open, & close almost daily...

It truly is a unique experience, unlike anything else you've cycled...plus the CF is really classy ( a gunmetal gray )...

Both use solid state memory, these are not affected my magnetism. The field strength coming off the T-Mag magnet is not sufficient to do anything anyways (I'm a biophysicist). Hope that helps, Radioactive :)

That's reassuring, I wonder if granules of steel from sharpening etc. would stick to the magnet causing problems with gritty opening or closing. :confused:

The 2 Spyders that I would like if I were to have to use a blade for a real self defense situation are my G-10 Sprint C-60 Ayoob model and my older, original VG-10 Matriarch. I've played with those 2 models so much they are both like second nature to me anymore.

Particularly the Matriarch it just seems like breathing to open and deploy it rapidly. If the Matriarch had a G-10 handle like it's big brother the Civilian I do believe I could even get a bit faster yet with it.

Now with the Sprint G-10 Ayoob model it has everything I ever wanted from the original Ayoob model. Not to mention a blade just built for the occasion should it arise.

If I didn't have those 2 my next pick would be the Yojimbo 2. I'm getting more and more sold on Wharncliffe blades for SD.

Well I almost forgot how fast I can deploy my STREET BEAT fixed blade with the right set up. Spyderco has a great line up of fixed blades which are designed to be deployed quickly. In many ways I prefer a really small fixed blade over a folder for SD purposes. A fixed blade I feel has many advantages over a folder not to mention that they are much safer and much more fail proof in deployment.

A fixed blade is already open first and foremost. With a good carrying sheath and a good place to hide it to me gives you a great advantage in deployment.

Spyderco's small fixed blades are truly great for quick deployment.

For spyderco's that I own,it's my dragonfly 2.
A quick flick with the finger next to the pinkie and she's open in a flash.
I guess if you mean deployed from pocket,rather than once in hand,then most spydies can be given a homemade wave for quick deployment.

For me the Military is the fastest. The Para 2 in tip down is second fastest I'd guess.

I'm referring to deployment from pocket to ready status.

For me, it's mostly the knives I've carried and used the most. Other than designs with Emerson Wave openers, I think I can deploy a Delica, Military or Stretch. faster than other spydies in my collection because I've had so many hours of 'practice' with these designs. The lightweight Manix with its superb CBBL is probably a knife that could be my fastest, non-wave, opener if I got enough time to carry and use it.

I don't have many Spyderco knives.

The quickest three are [in order of quickness], G-10 Civilian, followed by the G-10 Ulize, followed by the Byrd FRN Rescue 2. All deploy with wrist flick only, left or right hand, into hammer or reverse hammer grip, without spyderhole assist.

Next are the Byrd FRN CaraCara2, Byrd FRN Hawkbill 2, and SS Delica 4. Spyderhole assist is mandatory on these models.

Outright slowest is the G-10 Paramilitary 2. Compression lock handicaps this model unless loosened enough to induce unacceptable degree of L-R slop. Still rather new though. Perhaps it needs a bit more break in. As is, fantastic for general utility and food prep.

Waves? No thanks.

My fastest deploying Spyderco hands down is Emerson anything. Delica, Endura, Matriarch 2 are deployed as they clear my pocket. Faster than an auto IMHO.

Of all the ones I've owned, probably the PPT. The Detent ball and lock are balanced, the blade is light, and the handle is heavy. You give it a push and it feels like it wants to be in the open position.

From pocket to open in hand it is my Para2. I have carried it more than my other knives. Which one opens faster? I don't know, I don't have a time lapse camera. Most of them open very fast. My delica4 and sage3 both just fly open.
