New Back-Up Vallotton

#1

Post by MacLaren »

As most of y'all know the Vallotton was my first Spydie and prolly my favorite Spydie. I just really love the knife. And Im glad I decided to get a back-up. Especially at the price I got it for. Don't get me wrong, its still a lot of money. Anything over $100 is a lot of money (to me anyways) At any rate, I scratched the polished G10 on my current Vallotton (can barely see it) and have had it professionally sharpened. I didn't for a while anyways realize just what a well made exquisite knife the Vallotton is. I read a review just today and the guy said his Vallotton was smoother than his Sebenza. I can see that. And I don't think the Vallotton will be in production forever. Now, Im not gonna get into a big review, as David did THE Vallotton review already, which can be found here with the search function. However, I did find it interesting the little differences between the two Vallotton's I have. My original made February '14 and the one I received today made May '11
There not major differences, as a matter of fact, the only difference is the writing on the blade and the Spydie emblem itself. I prefer the latter (February '14 edition) I also noticed this on the two Dominos I had. Same difference. Ill let y'all see what I'm talkin about.

My first Vallotton (February '14) is on the Right and my new Vallotton (May '11) on the left.
Notice the nice sharpening job Jason Bosman aka Mr Edgy did-especially the Tip, and how the writing is a little bolder on the new edition. However, I think the Spydie looks a lot better on the older edition
lol! ( I have not cleaned up the new one yet)
All in all Im really happy with the knife. Its as new as one can get. The guy that I bought it from had always had it in the safe. And it shows.
I wanna thank y'all for letting me share.

They have one at my local shop. I want it but it's kind of spendy. I go back and forth as to weather I should buy it. Now if I ever find a sub hilt one then I am grabbing it on the spot!

I love that knife. I haven't carried mine enough lately, it does get pretty thick in the pocket. Congrats on doubling down!
So many spydies, not enough pockets.

Thought they (Spyderco Vallotton) were all sub-hilt? I know mine is.
At any rate, there are some dual action Vallotton's that Butch converted himself.
But, there $400

I had the awesome pleasure of handling one of those dual action models at the BLADE Show at Mr. Valloton's table. :D Talk about wicked sweet! Butch was a real gentleman and let me play with it for quite some time. Very nice. Congrats on the new sub-hilt!

Yes Sir I do and like you, I'm afraid that sometime in the future those worth having 2 of (to me) may not be available for the price I'm willing to pay.

I remember! Honestly I may have to buy one of these for for the fondling, beauty, and quality factors. Idk, Spyderco is coming out with some crazy stuff as of late so we'll see

I have strayed a little from Spyderco to try a few others and I have collected some pretty expensive folders. I have to say after all this, my vallotton is the IMO the highest quality, best F+F and by far smoothest of all my knives. I agree, the sebenza does not even come close to me for smoothness! Long live the Vallotton!

Lol, makes me wanna go ahead and get one. I can imagine how nice that dual action is.....And, as far as the $$ Butch, converting them himself.......I know The Deacon had mentioned this before, and I believe he's right in that Butch doing the conversion himself justifies the price.

No doubt swigert. Even if the knife doesn't fit your needs, its still certainly one worth having.
Its every bit as tough as the Tuff but, looks like a piece of jewelry. And that's strange.
Its built like a tank with its 4MM blade, but so very nice that ya don't wanna scratch it lol.
It'll be interesting to see the smaller version.
But to me, the Vallotton rides surprisingly well in the pocket.

Nice pics! Somehow I have over 200+ Spydies yet do not have a Vallotton. If I ever actually held one in my hand, that would probably push me over the edge. I'm sure I'll end up with one eventually.
Which Knife, A or B? get Both! (and C, D and E) :)
