I have a Sage 2, have had it for a few years, I haven't really "used" it more than opened and closed it!. I would say that it's "broken" in by now! :)
If I disengage the lock, the blade swings freely, no friction between the blade and the liners!
I noticed early that the blade didn't open smoothly, and even after I broke it in and the blade is swinging freely it still feels gritty to open it. You can hear a "scraping" sound if you open it slowly, the problem seems to be the lock are pushing very hard against the blade, the steel ball that sits in the lock doesn't glide smoothly against the blade at all! I have taken the knife apart to clean it more than once and cleaned it from oil and metal scrapes, I have tried different kind of lubes, used no lube, but nothing have worked to make the blade open smoothly!
I have seen videos of the Sage 2 that seems to opens very smoothly! But mine sure doesn't! This bugs me to the point that I'm thinking of getting rid of the knife! A big selling point for me is if the blade opens smoothly! If it doesn't is a deal breaker, even though I really like the knife!
Also, I have the problem of late lockup, around 90%! Sometimes it's really hard to disengage the lock! No or little lube prevent this to happen, but if oil or dirt comes between the lock and the blade, it really can get stuck!
The "detention" ball in the lock seems to have created a groove in the blade, and the ball aren't "round" anymore, you can see it has a flat area.
Have I worn out the knife? Since I bought the knife it has never felt smooth to open. Is this normal for this model? Or is it something "wrong" with my knife? Is there anything to do?
Thanks!/Johan

Without seeing the knife I think your best bet is to contact customer support and then to send your knife to Spyderco HQ to be assessed. If you sell the knife you are just passing the problem onto someone else and you probably won't get a price anywhere near what you want for it.
Recently I have read some great stories about Spyderco's customer service, repairing or replacing defective knives. You like the knife so get it fixed and enjoy it :)

Jon pretty much summed it up 100% there. Contact Charlynn at Spyderco W&R and explain the situation and I'm sure they will set you right one way or another. Good luck! The Sage 2 is an awesome knife that should work perfectly for you, I love the simplicity of it. Cheers, Radioactive :)
