LOL, money. That would have made a nice back drop. I had planned on that one time.
I can't believe he did that. Those FG scales would have looked great on my regular Manix or even better on my DLC one
By the way, a NIB XHP Manix went for $201 on eBay tonight. I would have probably bid if I hadn't just bought this FG Para2.

I received my Elmax PM2 in the mail Saturday (so happy that USPS still delivers on Saturday for me! :) ).
On a quick glance over it, I'd say the grinds are nice and even, and the smoothness opening/closing is just about the perfect balance (some of my recent PM2's came quite a bit tighter).
Mine is not quite shaving sharp though. I'll have to spend a little time on the Sharpmaker with it.
Which Knife, A or B? get Both! (and C, D and E) :)
bdblue wrote:I think that [green Tenacious] is the best color of all. I wonder if they can get that same color for use on US-made knives.
I really like that color too. To me it's a shade of Olive Drab, which has always come in a wide variety of shades in real life (jeeps, clothing, tents, equipment, etc). Surely something similar must be available in G-10 in the US.
(How to close with left hand--color is way off here).

Mine is shaving-sharp and the bevel is polished to a sheen and looks perfectly even on both sides. It opens and closes very smoothly except it takes a good bit more force than most of my other compression locks to get the detent to release as you start opening. But, either it has now loosened up some or I'm getting used to it. I used some Frog Lube CLP on the detent area, trying not to overdo it, because I don't want to mess with the pivot lube at this point. I've also ordered some DuPont Teflon Non-Stick Lubricant liquid and some Finish Line Ceramic Wax Lubricant (for bicycle chains when you don't want it to attract any dirt) just to experiment and see if they would have any effect on it.

MacLaren wrote:Did anyone figure out what hardness the Elmax was?
I saw that Mr Ankerson tested a Elmax PM2 but I have not seen the hardness yet. From Ankersons test I would guess that it 60-62 because it out performed the elmax mule he tested at 58.5 by a significant amount.
Got mine yesterday and I'm finally a happy Para2 owner. Although I've owned a Para2 in the past and enjoyed the ergonomics and compression lock as a lefty who wears medium-sized gloves, I never warmed up to the handle length which is a bit long for my preferred left rear pocket carry. However, I couldn't resist this sprint in one of my favorite colors. Initial impressions of mine...
Function
Slightly tight pivot and sticky lock which is right at 50% meaning the leading (right) edge of the lock bar stops in the middle of the stop pin. Blade cuts printer paper easily and phone book paper about half the time, so not as sharp as I'd like. G10 is the perfect texture in my opinion - slightly less than the G10 foliage Endura and quite a bit more than the CF Stretch.
Form
Slightly uneven grind and centering. Cutting edge meets the ricasso nicely. Pocket clip is too shiny in my opinion and would look better with a brushed finish to match the blade. The foliage green is nearly identical in color to the G10 Endura but not as dark as the FRN version.

How does the color on the Elmax compare to the CTS 204P? Anyone have a side by side shot?
Don't have a side by side shot at present. The 204P is much darker and in some light has some actual green. The Elmax is just like the color of the G-10 Dragonfly and D2 Paramilitary1, almost gray in sunlight but darker in incandescent and darker still in low incandescent. It almost looks a little OD in low indoor light, but any actual green is barely discernible to me. I think Foliage Green G-10 has a faint tinge of gold which looks very good, but that's probably just me. It's my favorite G-10.

Dark green and foliage green Para2's, just to show how the color changes depending on type and intensity of light. It's very hard to render these accurately with digital cameras ("Momma done took my Kodachrome awaaaay" ) Overall I'd say the dark green should be a little greener than shone and the foliage green should be a little less gray and more tawny.

I tried auto and got really screwy results. These are all set on "sunlight." The indoor ones were a mixture of incandescent, window light, and Ott Lights (supposedly ~daylight). I think these colors borrowed from camo actually look different to the naked eye depending on what light you're in, so I don't think the photos are too far off... whatever :)
For the outdoor ones, it was thinly overcast most of the time with some sun peeping in sometimes.

Alright, it's interesting how much color shift is with that setting fixed!

Right, I've noticed that these two colors seem to change even to the naked eye when walking, say, from a brighter room to a darker one. Also I see now that they look a lot more realistic on the Nexis 7 tablet I'm using now than on the EEE PE I usually surf with :)

You're welcome, no problem -- I've been wanting to try this.
