Heh... During (several) discussions the last two years regarding the Stretch, Im there talking about dark blue etc. Sal asks for color opinions and eveyone goes brown brown brown brown brown brown brown brown. When Sal announced the color, everyones was like yaaay brown.

The few saying they dont prefer brown should have been in those threads pulling for something else lol. Again, brown shades are cool but so many others out there id rather see first.

Sigh!!! What a waste of an opportunity to produce something legendary in a new Stretch.....if not Peel Ply Cf or a Weaved CF scale (a la the Sprint Domino) then even white G-10 would be a helluva lot better since at least ANYONE could choose their favourite G-10 colour with RIT dye.

I'm going to have to pass on the new Stretch until another one is produced.........just like I did with the Southard and every other brown coloured Spyderco......I think that there is definitely some Freudian joke that can be made as to the colour choice but I'm just too disappointed to try to be funny right now. It's just downright cruel to raise expectations by first stating CF and then get a large segment of fans and potential customers down in the dumps by then going with brown when there are so many other choices that EVERYONE could enjoy

Yeah, I guess you are right.....perhaps a new thread with an opinion poll of "Coyote Crap Brown" vs "Not-Crap Colored Brown" would be in order. I wonder if this decision is set in stone? Somewhere between the original announcement of CF to this latest bombshell of "brown" .....something went horribly wrong. I feel like I've eaten a dozen bad burritos and now I'm staring down at the aftermath a few hours later and feeling just about as pleasantly surprised and uncomfortable.

I can't find the emoticon of the smiley dude wailing and pounding his little fists on the ground......it would be most appropriate right about now. :cool:

Rather than a new post ....I have chosen an edit as a sort of a "Later Note" approach.

I am pleased to announce that in the midst of an enjoyable session of beverage sampling I have come up with the "PERFECT" solution.

Spyderco should release the next Stretch series in white GITD G-10 scales along with the Rit dye colour of your choice. Spyderco could pre-test all the variable colours of Rit dye and the results of different exposure times on the GITD scale material.....as a sort of colour swatch series.

Then people can order the GITD G-10 scaled version of the new Stretch and tailor their scale modifications to their own desire. People that want turd colored scales can dial in exactly their own particular favorite shade of brown and the rest of us can rejoice in GITD scales or make our own favourite choices of coloured G-10. All at no expense to our co-Spyderco aficionado's. :)

I could foresee many multiple orders if such a marketing scheme were to be utilized! What Spyderco fan wouldn't order at least two of these babies? One to keep as GITD and one to dye to your favourite colour?

Agree with speedcut. I came here expecting some new bomb from sal only to find useless post about the opinion people have on brown stretch. I DON'T CARE FOR YOUR OPINION ABOUT COLORS... when I thought a new bomb was dropped!

We have 3 in-the-works at this time. CPM-4V is one of them, but I don't think it's the next one.

I'm also considering MBS-26. We had a meeting with the maker (Masahiro) and he'll let us use his proprietary steel for our knives.

We met with the maker last week and will begin the changes (G-10 inner and outer ring, polished so as to be smooth in rotation). Then we'll consider a trainer if the demand is there.

ZDP is a steel that I carry quite a bit. Stretch, Caly 3.5, Delica, etc. Today I'm carrying a prototype Stretch in Coyote brown
peel-ply G-10 with a ZDP blade. Better to sharpen more often than let it get too dull. Hard to dull = hard to sharpen, all other factors being equal. By harder, I mean it takes longer.

I think this counts. I was secretly hoping this would come with a solid SuperBlue blade, but ZDP would be my second choice hands down. I can't wait to try it with the deeper choil.

The most desired knives for gutting among professional fisherman in the pacific northwest was the serrated K05 with the red handle. Cut like a witch, stayed sharp a long time. Easy to find. When they started to dull, they'd throw them away and get a new one. They used them by the hundreds. They really felt bad when we stopped making them about 10 years ago.

Just got back from the meeting the maker and we'll be remaking them. Hope to have them by October this year.

Update on the Native 5 CF/S110V:

The model is in production in the Golden plant. We can only produce a limited number each month and must wait to begin shipping until we reach a minimum number (collectors/premiers). I believe they'll begin shipping this year, but will probably be behind for a while.

Although this now has its own thread......I guess it now qualifies as a "bombshell" or potential bombshell in its own right. Sorry for the earlier commentary on the G10 colour that caused confusion for some people who were expecting to see a new bombshell.

I decided to start another thread on the Stretch so as not to hijack the ZDP thread any more. Apologies.

I designed the Stretch for me. That's why we're extending the time and cost to CQI the finger choil. The mod on the finger choil is the same as the Caly, though the Stretch is a much wider model. I'm enjoying the mod on the prototype. It's a very refined dcesign, in my opinion, and will improve the FRN version.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of brown, but It's ok and we do need variety. I use brown canvas micarta on my Temperance design. More for grip than appearance. I am a fan of ZDP. If the Stretch in the G-10 format is well received, I have no problem making variations. We won't be using black Nishijin until we use up the ton of blue that we made. I'll see if I can convince my staff to double up on the order and make a carbon fiber (buffed regular CF). Anybody else interested in a buffed CF version?

Sal's just full of bombshells today!

The Caspian was a nice design, but actually it was part of a model development that began with the SPOT, which was based on Fred Perrin's index finger hole as part of the handle. The latest in that model development is the Swick3 model. The Perrin Finger Hole permitted holding onto the knife while still using your fingers (not having to put the knife down) and it also made if very difficult to drop the knife or have it taken from you. As we continue to make short runs of the model, we refine it. I think we're close with the Swick3. Halpern is making handles for the Swick3 and SheathPro is making sheaths. The next run (leaf blade Swick3) will come with pocket sheaths.
