I like where Deacon always has his thoughts..... on the pretty polished parts!

I'd love Micarta, but Sal's posted that they don't like working with it. I once bought a Zowada purely because of the scales.

How would you guys feel about a shallow Anso patterned G-10 like the Zulu? That way we get a little grip and don't get the sand paper feel.

I would only warm up to this on the Caly if the scales remain thin and the scalloping is shallow. On the Military though, I say full ANSO all the way.

A Truly Essential

Hi Folks!

The Caly 3 is one of those pieces that every knife nut should have in the collection.

And certainly the G10 version is by far the best one.
 One of the most iconic Spyderco models in it's best version, what's not to like? :D

I'd go for a 3 or 3.5 in orange G10.

I would buy one to see, but I am not sure if I will keep it. Probably this is complete absence of logic, but I love my Native5 thick and caly3/3.5 thin.

Why would the G-10 version be better than the CF version? I've yet to get a Caly of any type yet and have been all over the place on which I'd want. Probably Super Blue steel but in a different handle than the FRN (which means, buying two models or get it pimped). Personally, I'm not a fan of VG-10 as I don't feel like it holds a good edge for EDC tasks and G-10 has been my least favorite out of CF, Micarta, and it. I love micarta and carbon fiber is really close to that level IMHO. G-10 is grippy but the others can be just as good (as shown by the Manix 2XL exclusive and many micarta knives out there).

Probably (in whoever posted that's opinion) because the CF is smooth and could be more slippery than the peel-ply G10.

The Super Blue Caly sprints (3 and 3.5 versions) were gray G10 rather than the gray FRN used on the more recent SB sprints.

Oh grey G10 with a SB blade does sound great. I never realized they weren't FRN, somehow.

Minority, perhaps, but I'm with you guys. Smooth G10 fits this knife very well.

But those were sold out a year or so (3.5) and maybe two years (3) back. :spyder:

I found a NIB SB Caly 3 a couple of days ago for a reasonable price and received it today. Here it is with my other Calys.

Congrats.
And I just bought back-up for my Caly3.5. I behaved really well lately and had to award myself.
I really would love to see another run of bolstered Damascuss Caly3. I would die for Giraffee bone scales
