Ode to Endura

#1

Post by SpyderEdgeForever »

I must say, the Spyderco Endura is an engineering masterpiece. All Spyderco knives with the basic lines of the Spyderhole blades are incredibly well-made.

"Oh Endura, you cut so well,
Oh Endura, you weave such a spell,
Oh Endura, you're such a fine knife,
Oh Endura, at such a great price."

(smile: Just tinkering around)

But seriously, the Endura model is one of the best pieces of cutlery ever produced.

I just received my first Endura 4 in blue. Blade centering is atrocious(virtually touching the side), the spydie hole is jagged and needs smoothing. She's on her way back to retailer! As with my experience with the black coated tenacious, the QC is very inconsistent. Sorry to rain on the parade.

I don't have time to buy 5 knives to find the one that is right! It's no masterpiece until there is some degree of consistency of output quality. Sorry to rain on the parade.
Neither of those is a "domestic model"... I'm not sure what point you're trying to make there?

Very nice creative ode.

If there's any knife which deserves something like this, that one would be the Endura.

Very nice. Maybe try a haiku to honor a fine Japanese knife with a Japanese poem. :-) just a suggestion. It is awesome that Spyderco makes such great affordable high quality users. I'm not an endura fan but boy do I love my delica.

Poor qc seems to be a hallmark of online sales.

I've never gotten a Spyderco, or for that matter, any folding knife over $20, that had any quality control problems whatsoever. I buy my knives from private individuals or reputable online dealers. I have had 3 Enduras, and every one was completely perfect. 2 of them were used. The Endura is my favorite cutting tool of all time and I have carried one all day, every day for a year now. An Endura was my first Spyderco, and still my favorite.

The endura is my favorite.
one of mine doesn't have the name of steel on his blade.
it's a green endura clipit.

Agreed. One is Chinese made and the other Japanese. The QC is done in Golden however.

I would like to know also. I have one identical (seems to be) only it is red. Plastic clip.
Bought it many years ago and have never used it. Are they worth anything? Can't find one on eBay.

What's the "scuttlebutt" on an Endura 5? Anyone know of a timeframe?

Unfortunately I think you're right. A lot of inconsistency out there. Unfortunately where I live Spydercos can't really be bought via brick and mortar.
