I always considering getting one. I love the grey G-10 but dont know about the whole patina thing. Is there a way to prevent the whole patina process?

It is a superb cutting implement. From my experience, even with diligent maintenance this steel will develop a patina... i.e.- signs of use. Why deny it something it excels at?

I coated the tang of my SB 3.5 and it prevented all oxidation, might reapply every few monts if I was serious about keeping the patina off the blade. Coated my entire M4 Manix blade in it with good results but took it off later to allow a patina to develop.

Sir, I'll have you know that that's not rust. Those are character marks. Hehehe...

I just use it and give it a wipe to dry. Once a week, I oil lightly.

Nice pickup Lance! I impulse bought a Caly 3 CF/ZDP about a month ago, after deciding I needed an office knife. Then about two weeks ago I made another impulse buy, a CTS-204P PM2... you know, to balance out the office / field setup.

Two great knives -- Impulse buys are usually the ones you want in your heart and may turn out to be your favorites :)

That's been my experience at least. I impulse bought a D2 Para Military1 this week and it's already one of my faves.

The 3 is really a great size. Very good for fruit and food handling, which will give it a very nice patina very quickly if you don't oil it. One of my favorites.

By the way, welcome to the forums :)
