It might be to prevent unscrupulous persons from attempting to sell a new FFG Manix with custom scales as one of the Blue or Orange Sprints.

It prevents me buying one.. More for others though ;) can't see any good reason for it, hoping they will update them soonish.

Maybe me too. I was considering getting the new one instead of looking for a used tan M4 sprint but just learned a couple of days ago that the sprints have skeletonized liners! Another complicating factor in the decision, making the M4 model more valuable to me. I like the extra weight OK in hand, but it seems more noticeable in pocket.

This also brings up the option of waiting for the light weight Manix 2 midnight blue s110v sprint. I thought this one, being light weight, would have FRCP scales like the other lt wt models, but found out a day or so ago that it will have FRN scales! (according to Mr. Janich, post #427): http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showthre ... pes/page22

Overall this is an excellent strategy on the part of Spyderco -- they keep dazzling us with new versions that keep us confused and off balance and the only solution is to keep buying them to try them out  :D ;)

I was set to buy the new black manix 2 in ffg, but decided not to due to the liners not being milled. I don't think I'm alone here either. I don't really understand why they didn't go all the way on this.

I could care less about the skeletonized liners. But why did they go to a black cage/button? Was the clear one weaker?

The solid liners just add to the weight, and at 5.2 oz, it's as heavy as the XL. These are in many ways my favorite knives, but they do tug at the pocket a bit.

The cage ball button question came up a while back, and somebody who knew (can't remember who) said they were both equally strong. I think the advantage of the clear one is that it goes well with any color. The black one would stand out on light tan scales or maybe red, yellow, etc, but it goes well with black scales, especially with a black blade. Maybe they'll bring back the clear button with light colored sprints.

Been carrying mine for a few weeks and never notice the weight compared to say, my Manix 2 LW. Then again, I only wear jeans and I am 6'5"/240.

Thanks for the info on the cage.

I'm sure you're right, it's just a psychological thing, but then, I'm only 6'2"/235 & wear loose pockets which might flop around a bit :)

If I wore a suit, I would not carry the Manix 2, maybe the LW.

You've convinced me it's all in my head. I'm going to carry my Manixes more and give them the attention they deserve.

PS I almost never wear suits, usually only to weddings and funerals if at all. Have to have cargo pants for phone or tablet, etc. BTY, I had you pictured like your avatar, which is apparently nowhere near accurate (in size) :) ;)

I will say the last office job I had I only carried a Cricket. The Manix 2 G10 would of been a pain with my slacks.

After admiring and enjoying the Manix XL and its skeletonized liners, I just don't get why Spydie wouldn't use skeletonized liners on the otherwise perfect new FFG Manix.

I don't know, but I suspect it may be to keep it in its relatively low price range. There may be a significant amount of labor expense involved in production of the skeletonized liners in the US. Not sure the comparison to low-priced skeletonized Chinese made knives is valid, because labor is waaay cheaper in China.

It's in the catalog as having skeletonized liners. I imagine it's a rolling change, but that the rolling change hasn't happened yet.

It could be. When this clear one failed it was replaced by the factory with a black one.
