a great knife, i know it's AUS-6. does anyone carry one of these for utility or SD ? any one have one they want to get rid of ? pjhead@aol.com , i use to carry one all the time it fits perfect in the front pocket and it's not bad for IWB, cuts great (with the drop point shape and plain edge) and makes a nice kitchen knife.

I had heard that the heat treat on them was very poor.

Aloha man!
I used to have one of them...gave it away to a co-worker. Sucker was sharp though, and took an edge easily, but didn't keep it very long. I used it in necker mode when I was Security Supervisor in the local plaza.
I liked it...but not that much obviously, or I'd still have it.

I have examined all brands of knives on the market. I have never been attracted to or impressed with any of the CRKT stuff. In fact, not one dealer has pushed any of there products on me. I just got into Spyderco, and I am impressed. I also clollect Benchmades and SOGs.
CRKT products seem to be geared towards the ELUs in sporting good stores found in malls. That is, Campers who thinkthey need a general knife.
They just seem flimsy and poorly made, IMHO.
I have a few Bucks, but not overall impressed.
Spyderco/Benchmade rule IMHO, with certain SOGs a close second.

That the blade was Aus-6 was not a problem (Spydie 6A is great stuff) but I do think the heat treatment was poor. The edge retention was nearly non existent. This is a problem I have had with all CRKT knives I've owned and has put me off the brand. Apart from that it is an okay knife

I have a CRKT Crawford-Kasper that's easily the equal of any folder I own. Absolutely perfect quality control, centered blade, flawless solid lockup, and it's just butter smooth. You can open it with just a flick of the wrist and there's no blade play ever.
That being said... it's the only one I own and it may or may not be representative of the marque. I'm not too impressed with any of their "KISS" line.

I'm not into CRK&T's knives. At all. The lock failed on an "M-16" And nearly sliced my pinkie off.
That said, I had a friend a while back who carried a drop-point K.I.S.S. on her bra. She could whip that sucker out so fast that I almost couldn't belive it. She also tought me how to flip a 'Bali.

I am not a big fan of the CRKT stuff , the Hammond has a nice feel and flipper , but I am not warm to any of their knives to have in my collection . I briefly owned an M - 16 , and do not miss it, I own a left handed Crawford Perfigo so why bother with a copy . If it is not a Spyderco or Benchmade , I just don't give it much of a look .

I currently own 3 CRKT knives. IMO i rekon they are really great knives. Great price and i love them. I own a stiff kiss with tanto point, original kiss with spearpoint and a M60 SOFTB.
I bought a spiderco rescue 93mm blue only because it was a rescue specific knife and CRKT dont make any. Spiderco knives in australia are between $25-$40 more than they should be. No one stocks them because of their price. You have to specifically order them which isnt real good cause you cant feel the knife. I only have 1 problem with the KISS series. They have only a one sided edge. Sometimes it can be a pain to sharpen properly, but when you get it right they are perfect. i recently bought the M60 to use in the State Emergency Service here in australia, turns out we arent allowed to carry fixed blade knives so ive opted for a rescue 93mm.
The rescue 93mm is $72.95 USD....Converted it equals $105.77. I paid $133 for my knife. EXPENSIVE

Aloha pjhead,
Look for my review on the "CRKT big japanese carry knife" here...posted it a few months ago...Now THAT is a good CRKT knife.
I also agree with Zrexxer on the Crawford/ Kasper. I'd still have it, but I gave it away to a fellow guard so he'd stop carrying around that "jaguar" brand folder...THAT CRKT was a great folder...in fact, it still is!

I only have a CRKT Rollock™ (thanks Jur ) and it seems pretty neat made to me. I must confess though, that I never carried / used it, I was ratherly interested in that particular locking system.
Speaking of the Kiss, I like Ed Halligan's concept(s). Well, not that much to actually want one, but interesting overall

My father-in-law gave me some CRKT's. In particular, the KISS, M16 (teeny zytel-scaled combo-edge tanto), and Mt. Ranier. All solid stuff and M16 and Mt. Ranier were blazing sharp out of the box. They stay in boxes as I have other knives I like much better, but they're still really good.
For $20 fixed blades, I have a Schrade 152OT Sharpfinger (1095 steel and Delrin scales never looked so good).
Bottom line is if the stiff KISS works for you .

I think the MDP Stiff KISS is a great design (but I really don't like the look of the Tanto version). I bought 2 on eBay when they were discontinued, one plain edge for about $10 and one half serrated for about $6. The serrated knife sits in my fishing box for cutiing bait etc, and the plain edge is mainly used by my wife for cutting food when we're camping. My wife really likes it, and she's not a knife fan. I think the design is superb, like it says "Keep it super simple", it's easy to clean, easy to sharpen, I don't have a problem with edge retention on mine. I modified the sheaths by cutting away the belt attachment part, so the sheath follows the line of the blade and is much more slimline. It still takes the pocket clip, and fits better in my fishing box.
Best thing about them though, was the price I paid !!!
Hey, how about a Spyderco version ???

I have had one for a few years. It rode in my old Jeep for a couple years and started to get rust specks on it. Brought it in cleaned it up and sharpened it up real nice. I think for the $ it is not bad, I have never really used it hard. I like the design but LOVE the SPOT way better. I think if I had to choose a neckknife other than my SPOT I would be with the Becker as I have heard way better things about it. The MDP Stiff Kiss is the only CRK&T I have left as the others I had never tickled my fancy. Decent knife overall I would say. Take Care!!!
