Hello everyone! I'm new on this forum and I hope to make a lot of new acquaintances and learn a lot from everyone and maybe contribute the little I know. lol. With that being said i have ran into my first problem.

I had no idea that if i open my para 2 up it would void the warranty rookie mistake. Anyways I clean a hog with it not to long ago and I guess blood got in the mechanism and it didn't open smoothly, so I open it and clean it but it still does not open smoothly. What do you guys think I did wrong? I did put grease on it.


BTW this is my first expensive knife ever

Yeah, dissembly voids the warrantee but a lot of us do it routinely. It isn't rocket science if you're careful and take your time.

Did it "look" clean when you had it apart?

Maybe try again and be more thorough?

Did the reassembly go well? Sometimes I've done things like crumple a washer and such. Being part gorilla, I got it together ;) but it wasn't good. Replacing the washer squared it away.

Might as well disassemble it again, clean it thoroughly, and put it back together. As long as you assembly it correctly I would be very suprised if it is still gritty.
Two historical figures, outlaws and desperadoes if that, the villainous pair of really nice boys who just happened to be on the wrong side of the law.

I really don't like the disassemble my knives. It voids warranties and I'm not really good at putting them back together. :o I usually use mild soapy water and wash it thoroughly while I also open and close it a bunch of times in the water. Then after that I dry it up and put some oil in the pivot oil and it's good to go.

Like the other guys said, there ain't much wrong with re-cleaning it at this point.

Would love to see a picture of the hog :D
I would take it apart again and make sure the washers are not bent or anything. Could also just open and close it for a while and see if it smooths out by itself

Another point I'd add is that if you have used your knife for a while already before you took it apart, the washers will be slightly worn in, making it feel gritty if you did something as simple as flip a washer around, meaning its on the correct side of the pivot, but you flipped it 180 degrees, putting the broken in sides on different broken in sides, making it feel gritty. I hope I conveyed my point clearly

I also take apart if grit or something gets in the mechanism. So post a pic of the pig, then take the knife apart again. If you have questions post them here and post photos and you will get it resolved. Your next purchase should be a fixed blade or you will go through this every time. Seems like Spyderco has a new hunter fixed blade on the way. Benchmade has a new fixed blade hunting line as well

OOwweee ........ my Weber Smokey Mountain bullet smoker would love to meet a couple of those pork shoulders. :D :D :D

Man you're not kidding. I don't hunt anymore, but if I were to get back into it, this would be one of my primary targets. Deer can be cooked in ways to make it taste good, but pulled pork, ham and bacon are always yummy lol.

Looks like blood might not be the problem. :D Try flushing it out with a generous dose of something like CLP and giving it some open/close cycling. If you have high pressure compressed air, try that as well. Soap and warm water have also been known to work well!
