What do you think of the blue carbon fiber?
Well, Spyderco has done it to us again by surprising us with the Domino with Blue Carbon Fiber.
What do you all think of this blue carbon fiber?
If it is as nice in reality as in the pictures, I want more knives with this stuff.
I would love to see a Dragonfly with the blue carbon fiber.

The pictures made me pull the trigger on the new Domino. I've always liked the Domino, but it looked to much like all of the other black CF knives that I have and it is very similar to the Sage. I could never justify spending that much money on a knife that was so much like the Sage. I really like the blue CF and that makes it different enough to want one in my collection. I also really like the gold CF on the Szabo, but the Domino just booted the Szabo from the top of my must get list. Actually, the Szabo would now be back at the top since the Domino has been ordered. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more knives with the blue CF, but not enough that it becomes common. I tend to like things that are unique. :)
Black. And I prefer the Sage style CF to the black or blue in the Domino.
(What I'd like even more is black sculpted scales, please!)

The copper wire in it is what worries me. There are enough reports of the copper wires sticking out of the sides of lightning strike carbon fiber (both from the start and poking out over time) that that alone makes me stay away. I would buy it if I was a collector rather than a user because it sure is nice looking, but I'm not.
I like the idea of carbon fiber in a color other than black/gray/etc., though.

Has it been confirmed that it has wire in it? I've seen some CF pictures where the light reflecting in a particular way makes it appear to have wire, even when it doesn't.phaust wrote:The copper wire in it is what worries me. I haven't seen the reports of wires sticking out on the lightning strike CF, were they on *unmodified* handles or after someone did some contouring/shaping of the handles? I do carry my Szabo some, and have not noticed *any* issue with wires sticking out. I absolutely love that CF, I think it is beautiful -- so I look forward to receiving my Domino with the blue thread also, it will be interesting to compare it.phaust wrote:The copper wire in it is what worries me. Never done this myself, but I heard you can use a q tip or some cloth to catch the wire and then rub it back and forth to weaken and break the wire. Or sanding it down probably would work - although breathing in cf or g10 is a bad idea.phaust wrote:The copper wire in it is what worries me. From the photos KW is using, it appears to be black cf with blue threads woven into it at intervals, but I will withhold judgement until I see more photos, or read a description written by someone who has seen it in person. Since I have no real interest in RH RIL knives, and even less in those with flippers, unless and until it shows up on a version of the Chaparral or Sage 4, it's no big deal whether I like it or not.

Hoping to see it in person by the end if the week :) . I will certainly post pics and impressions of the scale when I get mine (should be shipping today, yay!). I did switch my check CF scale on my other Domino to a G10 one for better traction, and I am hoping this new scale will have some better grip than the CF check version.
