My progression in EDC has gone to the UKPK. Initially, I was married to the idea of having a lock on my knife for safety. The UKPK is breaking me of that belief very quickly. It has quickly become my go to for every day tasks. I haven't found that I miss the lock at all. Spyderco gets the backspring tension correct. Also, the grinds from Golden have been significantly better than those from Moki, especially near the point. My Titanium UKPK has the best grind of any of my Spyderco knives to date. I am really impressed with the platform, and would love a folder for the mule projects because I currently do not used the fixed blades for anything but hiking, hunting, and some kitchen prep in the field. I would love a good whittlin pocket knife of some mule steels, and the UKPK ergos can't be beat for that.

I voted YES. I have an orange serrated UKPK and I am a fan of non locking folders. I also like the idea of a "folding mule" and would love to have frn UKPK's in different steels.

You've landed in the same opinion as what I am expressing in this thread. I chose the word "sprint" because of the fact that the UKPK is currently a regular model and I doubt that would change anytime soon. In addition, I assume that if this project were to happen then there would only be limited numbers of these UKPK's with exotic steels available. When this process is applied to the Military, Para Military, Manix, etc., then they are called "sprints" or "sprint runs".

Either way, I think it would be great to the see exotic steels in the UKPK models. Not only would there be interest among American consumers, I believe that our European brethren would be very excited to purchase these models since more of them could EDC it legally. Factor in decreased prices (as compared to other sprint runs of the Military, Manix, Para Military) and I think there is significant demand for this idea.

Hopefully, Sal can chime in on this? :)

My favorite part of this idea is affordability. Using the FRN UKPK platform would keep costs low, so those with smaller disposable incomes could participate in the super steel shootout. I'm on board either way, sprints, a project similar to the Mule teams, anything.

And if you haven't tried a UKPK at all you're doing yourself a great disservice. The upper end models are amazing, I have a foliage green G10 model that is literally perfect, but the FRN models are nothing to sniff at. I have been using one for quite a while and am absolutely blown away by what it does versus what it costs. Now that they've rolled out in a FFG I'll have to order another.

All that to say if you haven't, try it.

That's a great thought. I always try to use the "those poor people in UK that never get any super steel" excuse for my motives. :)

Also, I find a slipjoint easier to close than any locking knife.

I'd be in for a UKPK "mule" project.

FWIW, I prefer the drop point UKPK to the leaf (I own both).

For an upgraded UKPK for UK folks, didn't the Ti UKPK sell poorly? It's s30v, which is a substantial upgrade to the BD-1. Was there ever an s30v FRN option to try for upgraded steel at a lower price point?

Sorry but I'm happy with the FRN Handles with any blade steel, as long it cuts well & made in the USA. As long it's within my budget I'm good, Starting to put up a few Slipits(UkPK). Gary

Beyond the fact that I have no personal interest in the UKPK, I voted no simply because Golden already appears to be unable to keep up with the demand for its most popular models and throwing yet another Sprint into the mix certainly won't help.

The slipit UKPk with frn handles & the steel seems great , love the design. For someone like me on a budget, the way the economy is, it fits my needs. No sprint for these., leave it alone. Gary
