3 Spydercos, 3 materials. 3 different edges, which is sharpest?

I am by no measure an expert :) But I do enjoy and contiuously strive for pushcutting sharp :D Thanks to Spyderco and this forum I've learned how to achieve what for me are insanely sharp edges  , cleanly and effortlessly pushcutting the plastic packaging on a packet of earplugs at work :D If an edge does that then with a bit of care everything else parts easily ;) None of the edges are 100% "perfect"

Pictured are 3 blades made of 3 very different materials that I've sharpened as well as my limited skills will allow. All will easily pushcut reciept paper and newsprint :D Which is sharpest based on my purely unscientific, subjective and unsubstantiated opinion

Whoever geusses correctly and gets drawn via a random query will get the Mook Agate arrowhead in the picture. It's a very well done and attractive piece :)

Enjoy your holidays, Merry Christmas!!!

I'd guess the order they're in. Native then dragonfly then balance. That's my guess the native is the sharpest.

Going with the Balance. No real reason why other than you just had a thread where the Native was sharpest and I'm guessing you wouldn't be asking us again if it was the sharpest :p

I'd say the arrowhead, but I don't know if you sharpened that first ;p

The Dragonfly should perform the best due to the FFG and high spine, but that's an entirely logical answer and I expect I'm wrong.

Technically "sharp" is a relative, subjective way of describing an edges properties. It all depends on an individuals perceptions :) All of these blades have very fine edges where the bevels meet in the middle and care was taken to remove extraneous burrs :D All are very capable of parting a large variety of materials with ease :D

One, however stands out in my imperfect and subjective mind as being a bit more fine and friction free cutting flimsy materials than the others :D At this point objectivity doesn't play too heavily in the equation

It's quite beautiful when you touch the edge, and the material just parts with almost no force applied  I'm just an edge nut trying to learn and spread the delight of least resistance ;)

The Native Dragonfly Balance. ;) Seriously though, I'll just vote for the Dragonfly.

Just to muddy the water ;) If we lived in a perfect digital world this would be the sharpest  I took it down to about .005" with the HG before the final edge bevel which goes to an absolute zero

Okay, FINE! By looks, the XHP Native.

If it were in my pocket, it would be the Balance. I put a totally insane edge on those little guys.

Don't put me in the drawing, Charlie but I LOVE that graphic. Now THAT baby looks SHARP!

Good thing this wasn't included in the lineup, otherwise it would be a no-brainer! I'll guess the Native, just because of the CTS-XHP! Don't include me in the drawing though. Thanks anyway!!! :)

in my poor hands vg10 gets much sharper easier than s30v. so that narrows it down to the balance and dfly. the balance having a straighter, and shorter edge means that could be easier as well. and since we're talking about push cutting thin plastics and such, spine thickness/grind type should have little to do with it.

so, balance.

I guess the native's a CTS XHP, the dragonfly's ZDP and the balance VG-10.

Probably going with the dragonfly.
