I am just the opposite, I carry a Caly 3.5 M-F but I almost always reach for my H1 SE LB hawkbill salt to save the edge on my main blade. I get a whole lot more us than a key fob!waco kid wrote:I recently sold my Ladybug and my Kydex sheath for it. I almost never used it. It was just a pricey key fob. I carry a Millie and put it my desk drawer if it gets uncomfortable.
I keep my Ladybug on the desk in my home office. I actually use it 80% of the time at home. For bigger jobs I reach in the drawer for a bigger knife.
However; I find the Ladybug blade too short for a lot of food jobs, especially slicing apples.
Also, I NEVER carry it. I just know that if I carry it I will lose it due to it's light weight and size.
If you can cut apples and keep it in your pocket, it should work for you.

I don't mind using and dulling my main blade. It gives me a reason to sharpen my knives. :D And if I'm around people who would freak at the sight of my Millie, I have my Leatherman Rebar on my belt. :Dtwinboysdad wrote:I am just the opposite, I carry a Caly 3.5 M-F but I almost always reach for my H1 SE LB hawkbill salt to save the edge on my main blade. It's funny to see how many people responded concerning food prep, especially apples. Believe it or not, other than opening mail/package and cutting tape, the main reason for my EDC blade is to slice apples. I must eat 3-4 Gala apples each day. I love them. That being said, the LB or MB just doesn't cut it (excuse the pun) for slicing an apple. It will skin one nicely, but not cut it like I do with mine. My Delica-4 did a great job, however I found it too large, for me, to EDC. Since I've started this thread, I've been trying to EDC a Ka-Bar Mini Dosier. It has a bit more cutting surface than the FB or the MB, but still not quite long enough. It does feel OK clipped in my pocket. I have the full-sized Dozier that has a longer blade, but that's on the verge of being too large for me to carry. I'm almost thinking that I should stick to carrying my Dragonfly-2 and be done with it. It gives me a bit more cutting surface than the LB and MB, but rides un-noticed. In addition, I love the wire clip. Too many **** choices..................

For my part, I bought 2 spyderco about 1 years and a half ago. They were my first true knives. I ordered both the zdp ladybug to carry with my keys and a zdp endura. I must say that for other then cutting 5/8 to 1 inch braided rope ful of mud and stone and abusing the knife for the fun of seeing how strong they are, I mostly used the ladybug. It's small, cut better through cardboard then my non FF endura since the blade is so thin, doesn't emcumber you at all. My bro was out for a 2 years trip to Costa Rica and guatemala and had his last knives stolen in his last trip and gave it to him so he could hide it since it's so small. He did love it and used it to every task in the jungle (he's not a city dweller) without trouble. Ladybug ftw!

All I can say in my use with the ladybug is that its very useful and effective, when I got it I expected good things being that its a spyderco but I did not expect it to be able to perform so similarly to many other knives I own that are larger. I could probably get by with only carrying the LB on most days but a much larger and more comfortable, full finger grip knife is much more ideal for me, but you wont be underknifed with only a LB, after all this reading I just may have to pick up a zdp manbug now.
It just has too much belly and up swept tip for my taste. To be fair, that does add a little extra edge length, but I'd prefer having a wharnie myself since the thing is too small to do any cutting where having a big belly comes in handy. That said, you probably could skin a deer with one pretty easily. I also wasn't crazy for how wide the handle is compared to the Ladybug. I get the reasoning behind it, and it does give more grip, but for carrying on my keys I prefer the slimmer width of the Ladybug.this_is_nascar wrote:I loved how the MB felt in my hand, but could never get over the looks of the blade. I could most go for a wharnie G10 Manbug, complete with SS bolsters. That would be an awesome knife.
If it was going to happen in a LB, it'd be great if they could perhaps make both a FRN and a G10 version (a la the Jesters). There's just something so fun about the little guys when they're outfitted in G10, great to play with especially in more public places where they are easily hidden in hand.
