I ordered this knife in SS because of the good price point I was able to find. The knife should deliver via fed ex tomorrow and I suppose I will know fairly quickly if I like the stainless steel scales or not. However, knowing myself, I never leave anything stock. Be it a car/truck, gun, knife, you name it. I always enjoy changing and personalizing my gear to fit my needs. Plus I like owning things that are modified to be unique and custom. One thing I was thinking about for the scales was to order a set of grip/tape from talon grips. I put talon grips on my Glock and it is amazing. I think if it were properly trimmed and fitted to the SS scales of a spyderco it may do a good job and look pretty cool too.

Thanks guys. Appreciate you being kind. :) I really do think it's time for this knife to get a makover. Has anyone ever seen a Spyderco bug with an AZ ironwood handle? Me either. I think it's about time. "to be continued" :D

So, FedEx delivered the SS Delica today. Beautiful knife. Unfortunately I do not think its for me. I had the pleasure of handling a CF Sage today and I fell in love with it. My father turns 61 next week and I noticed he is carrying a cheapo pocket knife. I'm going to have the as delica engraved and give it to him as a birthday gift and I'm going to order the CF Sage for myself, unless you guys have a different recommendation for something better/similar to the sage. I also checked out the military and paramilitary. A little too big for my taste. I have fixed blades to carry when I need a knife that size. Anyways.... I'm gonna wait till tomorrow to order...after I get some feedback from the forum.

IMO the Sage1 (CF) is a hard knife to beat. It's one of the smoothest opening/closing knifes I've held. Very well designed and built. Great blade steel and a beautiful knife. The only knife that is similar looking is the Chaparral CF. It's a little smaller and has a back lock instead of a liner lock. Might be a little better as a gent's knife if you work in an office environment. The Chaparral knives are one of my favorite knives. I seldom like one lock over another and don't consider that as a deal breaker on any knife. As long as the lock is reliable and easily used one-handed it doesn't matter to me which lock it is. So for me size is the main difference in the Sage1 and the Chaparral 1. IMO the Sage1 knife is such a great model I couldn't recommend anything as better. That would be a matter of personal choice. You handled the Sage so if you would like something a little smaller and thinner get the Chaparral. If not the Sage is the choice. Happy deciding. :)

Once again thank you. The whole reason I decided to consider a folder was because I wanted something smaller than my edc fixed blade(s). I will definitely check out the Chaparral. I EDC a lot of titanium gear. While Ti is pretty cool, I think CF is way cooler. Strong, great looking, and super light weight. Thank you Jackknifeh. Will definitely check the Chaparral out.... regards, TK

Well, I couldn't wait... ordered the sage. Guess I've been bitten. The delica will get engraved Monday for my dad. Any of you proud fathers please do chime in and let me know what would be a great quote to see on your spydy everyday from a son. In the mean time, the sage will be here Tuesday...thank you amazon prime.

You know we expect pictures don't you? :D You're getting a great knife. I had one and traded or sold it. I had the CF Chaparral which looked like it and filled the same roll as the Sage1 did so I let the Sage go. Now I don't have the CF Chaparral anymore (I have the ti Chaparral). I was planning on getting another CF Chaparral but now you have me wanting another Sage1. I should thank you but I'm not going to. What the heck. Yes I will. Thank you. :) The Sage1 is back on my wish list. :D

MY first Spyderco knife was a Delica, and I found it to be a great pocket knife. I still have 2 of them, that I carried when I worked at an installation that limited blade lengths to 3 inches maximum.
When I found the combo-edge Endura, I was hooked, it did everything for me and I started carrying 2 Enduras.
Then I found a full-serrated Rescue and that knife is a beast and will cut through just about anything, and since then I have carried 1 Endura and 1 Rescue and have been doing so for 15 years.

Jack, pictures will definitely go up on Tuesday evening. My apologies for sparking the interest on the sage. I am very excited to receive it. It just looks so nice and I love the blade shape. CaptainK, now you got me thinking. Maybe I should give the Delica some carry time before I send it off to my dad. Had I ordered the knife with the FRN scales I think I would like it better. I do like the weight of the SS though.

If he's anything like my dad, once he gets it, he'll probably never let you handle it again. :D
