Domino scale swap?

#1

Post by Evil D »

Anyone seen one yet? That weave is just too fancy pants for my taste. I'd also like to see something with softer edges or at least a bevel around the edge. I know G10 is boring to some but I think I'd like this knife a lot better with boring black G10 scales or even the other peel ply carbon fiber. I'd especially like it more if it made the street price less lol.

Totally agree unfortunately... I will only buy when it gets released in g10. Imagine a grey g10 :)

In a more fancy pants direction, I'd like to see the Domino and Southard with a linerless CF scale on the presentation side.

Don't get me wrong I do think it's a beautiful pattern and it's very cool looking, I'm not at all knocking it. I just prefer something less flashy for EDC. What I would really prefer is the standard textured Taichung weave...that would be a perfect middle ground IMO. Maybe it'll grow on me, maybe it's just more flashy than I'm used to since all the knives I carry are simple G10. When I carry my Vallotton I feel like I have pocket jewelry on, and it's just polished G10. I rarely carry my CF Caly 3, but when I do it's usually a special occasion so it fits the dress code. This is also a knife I'd like to see without the liner and with a matching Ti scale.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but the Domino's CF scale is beveled around the edge. I just got my Domino yesterday, but so far I like the scale. I find the texture just a bit grippier than the Sage 1 CF. The scale seems pretty polarizing from what I've been reading, a lot of people don't like it. I guess it would be pretty simple to make a new scale, or have one made.

I think the pattern just pops off the scale so boldly that it takes your eye off the bevel that's there. Even if the bevel were even more shallow and rounded it would still look really flat and square looking because of the pattern.

I'm getting tired of all G10...even of most CF. What I'd like to see a lot more of is Micarta!

If the screw lengths would allow you could simply remove the scale and leave the exposed ti liner. I reckon you might want to round those edges a bit though...

I just saw one that Tuffthumbz did on IG. A presentation side ti scale.
Looked great.

I see nothing wrong with stirring concrete with the Domino at the construction site. :D

Actually I benefitted from someone thinking their Bradley Folder (GB) was too pretty to use. They traded it for a knife I had that I had made scales for. So now I have the BF. :) The only problem is it's too pretty to use. :)

Jack, I have many ugly knives that I would gladly trade you for that pretty GB. I traded mine away for an orange military and I miss the GB already. Thanks for offering to ease my pain... :D

I agree! Here's some Micarta Pron :D

I showed this off to Eric at Shot Show this year and he loved it! I asked him why Spyderco doesn't do much with canvas micarta and he replied, "It's simply too hard to maintain at the right moisture levels and temperature." ... or something along that line. Pretty much, it creates too many problems to mass produce.

Much of the time if I want a new user, I have to buy a user. Otherwise it just sits on my desk looking pretty and waiting...
