First knife your dad gave you.
First knife your dad gave you.
Hi everyone.
When I was very young, maybe 8 or 10 years old my dad gave me my first folding knife (1981 or 1983)
It was brand new in a box,and inside was a (you guess)
I would like to see how many guesses it takes until the knife is named.
I would also like to hear your first knife from your father or your first knife altogether
(In case your dad wasn't the one who gave you the first)
Thanks to all in advance for playing along.

But **** that SAK is a serious tool for sure :)
You can get out of some tight situations with that puppy if you had too :)
Sorry guy's I edited the original thread and deleted the black box with a lid,and just put a box.
I think i made a mistake and was thinking of a black box with a lid that held a uncle Henry sharp finger.(another early knife around the house as a kid)
GirlyMaNN you can get another guess if you want, since I through you off with the black box thing :)

My father never gave me a knife, but my mother did. She bought me my first knife along with other office supply in office supply store for my first grade. I was seven. We all used knives to sharpen pencils. It was small pen knife. I had a pen knife in my backpack most of the school as well as five years of engineering school. There were no CAD back than. All print were made with pencil on the drafting board.

My first knife was a barlow given to me by my father. He gave me a cub scout knife like the blue one JAX has pictured. I still have the Cub Scout knife, but, alas, not the Barlow. I still have a thing for a good Barlow.
But my father, being a gun nut and a knife nut, gave me many memorable knives. One was a Buck Folding Hunter. This was before the 110 designation and it has (I still have it) a 440c blade that is hardened so hard it is difficult to sharpen but you can skin 3 deer with it (I know!) before sharpening it. My friends all had Puma knives and they would break their tips or have to sharpen them. That knife still is tight and handy. He also gave me a Buck General and several (this was back in the 60's) Tree Brand knives such as Barlows and Stockmans. Reading this article has made me think of him, again. He has been gone these many years, but he instilled good, solid values in me while he was here.

Victorinox Climber:
Used and EDCed since I was 8 years old. Carried until 3 years back. The blade was sharpened a lot with more then a quarter of the steel removed, but the main issue was that the main blades spring was used so much that it was like butter really. It would not snap the blade open or close any more. The toothpick and tweezers where replaced numerous times. The knife went missing numerous times and popped up again and again. All and all. It was awesome....it was stolen a few months back with a large part of my knives I inherited. Sentimental value wise it sucks because one cannot replace the knives that where taken. One was my very first knife. A German Eye Brand trapper (last picture, bottom one) from my grandfather who has passed.

The first knife my father gave me was a Victorionox Officer's model, probably when I was around 10. I still have it, it resides semi-retired in my glove box :)
What I no longer have but remember to this day is the note that accompanied the knife. It said: "For Bruno. Cut with care."
He was, and still is, a great father and a great man.
Regards,
Bruno

That's awesome :)araneae wrote:My dad bought me an original bucklite to use in cub scouts. I still have it 25 or so years later. I lost the second knife he gave me which was a minibuck.
Unlike alot of you guy's I don't still have that first knife my dad gave me.
So you guy's have some treasured items for sure!
But on the upside my pop gave me a 75yr old straight razor, and a file knife that was made by my grandfather,so that's good too! :)
