On a serious note I'm not a flipper unless holding a Rock Salt for a year, realizing you have no purpose for it, and getting lucky is a sin. If you get points for losing money on hobbies I'm almost to sainthood. :)

Where's the option to "use and abuse"?

There's a world of difference between that and being a collector, buying a random standard production knife, keeping it in mint condition for a few years until it's long since discoed and hard to find, and then selling it for a profit because they're hard to find. There are people buying these with the sole purpose of reselling them for a profit right after they've sold out, which is fine I guess that's their right but I also have a right to my opinion and it pretty much disgusts me, especially if the people doing it aren't even active members of the forum. When you really boil it down, the only difference is the time a person keeps the knife before selling it, but something about the buy/flip mentality gets under my skin.

But, that's all I'm gonna say because last time I locked a thread with a rant like that, so carry on :D

I'm pretty sure if you look up the definition of hobby, it says "see money pit".

Received my two this evening. Having been the first time I've seen or held a Native 5, I thought it'd be bigger.
It certainly got a little heft for a smaller sized blade.

With all things considered It's very similarly sized when compared next to the Caly 3, and that makes a great EDC blade.

I think I'll enjoy using this one... after I put a keen edge on it  .
Out of box sharpness on the one I opened leaves a lot to be desired.
Other than that the fit and finish is excellent!

I felt the same way on both of mine, but I guess given the steel I'm not so surprised.

I am using and carrying a forum knife. The first task was to cut up the shipping box into little bits.

MachSchnell wrote:I've recently re-profiled my Calypso and Caly 3 SB to about 15 Dps (30deg Inclusive) on my WEPS system. And finishing them on the 600 grit diamond with no micro bevel produces an awesomely scary edge. I think that S110V should rock at this setting as well. And per most chatter on edge stability of high carbide steels, 30 deg. inclusive seems to meet most EDC tasks reasonably (of course within limits, without abuse.)
I think the hooha about the lack of edge stability of high carbide steels is a lot of agricultural fertilizer. Who uses 5 dps bevels on their pocket knives anyway?

If I decide to pass on the 2nd knife, I would be confident of getting my money back, but I don't expect it to go for crazy prices due to the availability of the CF model as a regular production item.
Are you sure the cf version will be a regular production model? I was under the impression that it will be a sprint run.

My Native got to the Post Office Monday, but due to the Post Office's new hours and me working M-F from 8-5, I won't be able to get it until Saturday. I guess for me it sucks that: Sales started on Thursday, didn't ship until Friday, and that I paid for Priority shipping which sort of turned into 8 days.

I think this will be a good knife for peanut butter. :)

I have always liked the Native (probably due to my smaller hand size) and with the high end steel, this one will see quite a bit of pocket time. Fit and finish are excellent as usual but as others have said, the out of the box sharpness is not quite as keen as I like it. I guess that this weekend I will be learning how difficult S110V is to sharpen on my WEPs.

Well, I took that big step. It's in my pocket today. It probably won't see much use, taking my mom to the dentist, bank, and then I've got a few errands to run. (At least I'm hoping not to have to use it at the dentist office and the bank. ;) ) It's got a nice pocket presence, not too big, and the G-10 doesn't seem overly rough on the jeans. I was surprised how much smaller it looks and feels compared to my Delica, even though it is approximately the same size. The Forum's handle is a little shorter, but the blades are about the same.
A Whole Bunch of Spydies! :D
