Maybe it was the same person who paid $850 for a CF Para 2 a few weeks back.

Maybe if the handles were S110V and the blade was CF with mother of pearl hardware, but other than that, no.

It wouldn't shock me if some of these ultra-high auctions recently were actually faked. There have been scandals about similar activities in other communities with ardent fanbases, people fabricating sales to try to drive up prices.
Think about it: you see a carbon fiber PM2 "sell" for almost $900, then the next time you see one for sale for $600, you think it's a bargain and snatch it up believing there's easy money to be made. I'm not saying this is definitely what is happening, but it wouldn't surprise me if it did, at least occasionally.

Not a good idea to fake an auction. You have to pay the final value fee when it sells. Paying $113 to fake a sale isn't worth it.

If you have the money, what's the difference. Personally, I don't buy the sprint runs
because I think that they are too much for the knife that you are getting, unless there
is a special knife or steel that you really want.
But hey, most people would find it crazy to spend $100 on a knife, when you can get a
really big one for $10 at WalMart.
I won't name models, but there are some Spyderco's that I personally think are way
too high. Not that the quality isn't there, just that I would spend that much for that knife.
Then I'll turn around and spend more for one than someone else would for it. It just
depends what you like and don't like and how much cash you have laying around.

True. In this case, one must consider that, because of all the variants, the Military has become one of Spyderco's most popular models with collectors. Couple that with the fact that the 2000 Forum version has the distinction of being the first Spyderco Forum knife, and that, despite the XXX of 500 markings, there were probably less than 200 of them made making it the rarest Military variant. And, while the auction closing price is high, considering the regular Military had an MSRP of $150 at that time and that some versions of the Q now fetch in excess of eight times their original $50 MSRP, it's not all that shocking to me that someone would pay that for it.Gunslinger wrote:The value of something is only what someone is willing to pay, and that someone was willing to pay a lot.

He'll stop by tomorrow. Get the funds ready. :)Evil D wrote:I might pay a grand for a forum knife if Sal himself came to my house and delivered it to me in person, took me out to dinner and later sharpened all my knives for me while he was here.
