Knife confiscation

#1

Post by druid »

I will start off with a deserving entry, I had my first spyde justifiably confiscated and thrown in the trash will never forgiven for that. Doing a drunken bar incident it was a serrated cricket with aluminum handle. I was drunk and was fondling my knife, when someone laughed at its size. I promptly forced his head back and held the blade up against his throat, simply to illustrate that if used correctly the blade was adequate. As you may understand this demonstration was not seen as intended I was cajoled into putting the knife in safekeeping. As I was later stop by the police for drunken public this was probably for the best. I have since quit both drinking and brandishing. I have come to believe that carrying a knife is in the sensor responsibility a code of conduct, the responsibility to act in a common dignified manner. If you carry a big stake it is best not to act rashly or you may be tempted to use it without true necessity. If you think about it even getting into a fistfight while carrying a knife is a very bad idea on all kinds of levels. The heart of my question regards the carry of knives with the ability to be opened with one hand.

You make a good case for stronger knife laws in California.

Guns, knives and alcohol don't mix. Even the guys that have civilian concealed carry permits for firearms in my area cannot carry into a bar.

Here's more that drives your point home even more ... I had a couple of guys over last night .. and we had a few beers and started viewing the warchest. My very best buddy pulls one of my SE workers out and cleverly feints a couple of times at my hand and at the other guys. All fine, but he nicked the back of my hand.. You guessed it blood .... blood ... Cripes ... He was real sorry ... it was an accident ..., but it would likely not have happened if we had not been drinking.

Knives are illegal to carry into bars/liqour establishments here. Even when I go bar hopping, I fill my glovebox with the toys, and only have my multi and neck carry, and still never use them. I've only used my 'fly once in a bar, to get a loonie($1cdn) off a table, that was stuck to it.

knives and drinking don't mix.

you are right, thou I have been soder for 4yr&5m. As to whether I'm a good argument for knife control, maybe. I'm six-foot four with an eccentric personality, there are certainly those who do not understand why I carry my toys. His heart is maybe to believe I am harmless though. Quasi pointless personal information but I had to you know. Incident in the bar is nothing more than a great example of why some people shouldn't drink and why weapons are not allowed in bars, or even potential weapons.

...You put a knife to someone's throat while you were drunk in a bar?...It's lucky (or not) that you are still alive. I'd have killed you had you pulled that stunt on me, and I'm serious.

Idiot.

I'd be lying if I said i never did nuthin' stupid but WE LEARN from mistakes. Hopefully! just wanted to point out that a simple non felony knife violation in Ca. will most likely disqualify you for a CCW permit. Not only that it may also disqualify you from purchasing a firearm in Ca. Further, you may now technically BE a fellon if you possess a firearm during your probation for this "brandishing" incident. Check out the laws in your state! Befor you use a weapon for defense.! (or do anything stupid...) I'm NOT a lawyer. You should only take legal advise from your attorney.

All the best, Ray

The other guy was a friend of mine and it was more than the spirit of the demonstration. Nonetheless it was definitely not appreciated. I've never had any arrests were convictions for four weapons of any kind. I was stopped for being in the park after dark but the cricket I had was returned without any concern whatsoever. At any rate and lively discussion, but seriously I have learned to avoid any threatening action or activity with any of them as they carry none of them are an MBC they are all attractive and reasonably nonthreatening models Chinese folder meercat and centofante Jr. my cricket the second owned is currently not in evidence. last and the reason for this post and appreciate the opportunity to share in use discussions.

Hey Druid, come stay in Denmark...all the beer you can drink and all knives are more or less illigal so you can´t bring them anywhere, or even have them at home. It´s what is called safe drinking in the land of Vinekings...ehh I mean Vikings.<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Hi glockman

Only thing is you might end up doing 5-10 for manslaughter. I would have just broken his nose and shoved his head down the loo whilst flushing!
Life is too short to spend it in prison and your input is too valuable here!

Swede, give me a break, stronger knife control because someone is drunk and acts like an idiot? California already has stronger Knife laws than gun laws. It is a felony to carry certain knives concealed, whereas if you carry a concealed firearm it's a misdemaenor. Sound more like a case of needing to control people that act stupid when drinking.

Hey, Vox...not being able to own knives, doesn't that make it kind of difficult to prepare dinner? I mean, how do you go about cutting up the meat, vegetables, and other ingredients?

Wall or on the subject of me, I'm far more dangerous drunken unarmed. Then sober and carrying a utility tool. My standard advice to anyone who suggests a drink especially if they know I don't is that if you see me drunk just run, or someone is sure to point out just allow your concealed glock and moderate the situation. Thanks for the discussion I am feeling a little stomp though, especially since the bin a little angel for such a triple*longtime. In sure you be glad to know I don't even have any firearms I just like the art theory and utility of knives. Please don't hate me all you big scary people!

Druid,

Friend or no, you were indeed lucky that nothing further transpired either from the local gendarmes or to/from some other brave and tipsy soul with a hero complex. Your over zealous attempt to make a point very well could have ended up with tragic results. Drinking is not well known for increasing your judgment and improving your fine motor skills. I agree with Dann and say "Idiot" for your actions then. But it seems you have learned and changed your lifestyle to a more enlightened path so I say "Bravo" for being man enough to learn from your experience, admit your mistake, and share it with us knowing you would take some few hits for it.

Aye! California Gun and Knife Control laws inhale briskly and forcefully. My personal credo is “Your own on-board computer is the only effective gun or knife control needed – Think! Train! Act responsibly!” I carry what is necessary and I’d much prefer to live through an attack and face charges than be a statistic for others to cry for more stringent knife laws. I don’t want to see us head down the same road as Demark or other anti-knife states but a few incidents of misuse can lead to a state of paranoia where even screwdrivers in the “wrong” hands can be legislated (Ask Vox about that one.)

We can’t be responsible for every fenderhead’s lack of social skills and willingness to arch up and whup out his folding pocket Klingon six bladed battle axe and bicycle multi-tool because some wall-eyed soccer dad at In-and-Out kind of looked at him the wrong way. We live in times where box-cutter equals airliners crashing into populous buildings and we react by going barefoot through the gauntlet of detectors where some recently appointed security guard confiscates your nail clippers. We all must act responsibly with our knives and teach our children the proper use and value of knives. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. We should be alert to groups like Handgun Control International (HCI) and the Society to Help Enable Every Person to Live Edgeless (SHEEPLE) and their actions to curtail our rights to carry or use. Unfortunately we still need to organize and form our own political arm, lobby, or unified voice to try to limit further restrictions, advance our own and others edge-u-cation, and to stand and condemn maroons, with indignant and strident rancor, when maroons do stupid things with knives.

Hi druid

Although I would have bust your nose for drawing on me, the great thing is that you started a thread explaining how you had done something really, really stupid and have explained why. You then have asked for opinions whilst not freaking out to some heavy s**t criticism. I think you deserve respect for your 'confession' and the way which you have answered comments from everyone in a reasonable way.

I hope you keep your demons under control and your knives inside the house.

Take care
