There is a small round mark filed into the top edge of the blade above the spyderhole.

I just wish I had more money to spend when I went there. There were so many more good deals. I actually had to put back a CF para2 because I ran out of money :(
Yeah man to **** with that, I would've walked to the nearest blood bank and donated blood/plasma/semen/kidneys/etc lol.

I hear ya - unfortunately, I had just heard that I was losing my job, and had to hit the blood bank just to scrape together the meager budget I brought with me on that day.

If I had been gainfully employed, I would have spent probably 10x as much. :D

Important tip: They will not accept it if you bring it all to them in the same bucket.

I'm pretty sure blood banks will kick you out if you are donating kidneys. :p

Very doubtful. Generally something cosmetic. A grind line off or a scale not quite fit. But it's generally hard to find, as mentioned.

Yep. It's likely that the most obvious "defect" is the little mark showing it's a "second." :)

Someone mentioned to me recently that many knives are marked as seconds due to blade centering. I went back and checked a few of my seconds, and it does seem to be the case with about half of them. I've never been someone who really cared much about perfect centering, so I never noticed.

On my damascus caly 3, the "second" quality was a scratch on the stainless steel bolster. After a few months of regular EDC time in my pocket, there are many more scratches in that stainless...

Spyderco seconds are AWESOME users. I wish I had been able to afford to buy ten times as many knives as I did when I went to the last seconds sale.

But in fairness centering isn't covered by the warranty for non-seconds, at least not if it doesn't cause some functional problem. So a slightly off-center second may not be any "worse" than a first. :)

The only thing I could find wrong with my orange Millie 2nd was an off center blade. Funny thing is that after some use, it centered itself right up and has stayed that way for years and through a lot more use!

I would be interested in this as well. I honestly can not find a mark detonating that mine is a second.
