Updated Gayle Bradley?

#1

Post by Popsickle »

I just got my southard in the mail and as I sit here comparing it to my current Gayle Bradley I'm wondering about the newer updated version I saw proto pics of awhile back. Has there been any news on this new gayle Bradley folder? Any and all information is appreciated :) . As much as I LOVE the southard flipper the GB is my favorite Spydie by far!

Edit : the proto pic I saw was of a more refined large GB and not the air

As I recall, it's a different model, not an update of the current GB.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

sometimes you can read about an updated version of the Bradley on the market because there has been 2 generations of the knife. the differences being a lighter second gen and something about the Texas logo in the back which i don't recall at the moment.
in the video there's a bigger bradley which has no name and is practically the same design (blage grind might be slightly different and it has a more square handle butt). the first Bradley was Para sized, this bigger one seems more like a Military size.

Could be.

The image on BF takes you to the OP's Photo Bucket page where the vid should play...worked for me before I posted.

The photo posted by Chuck_Roxas45 is the prototype in question. I've been waiting and inquiring about this "yet to be named" model myself. In the vid, GB says very little about it except that it is based on the previous model he did. I believe he was referring to his first GB collaboration. From the vid it appears to be nearly the same dimensions as the original and shares many of the same features including the raised liners (or another way to describe...the liners extend beyond the scales). The major difference I can see on the vid is a more angular shaped handle. The overall knife looks more like an iteration improvement of the original GB, as opposed to a brand new design.

The way GB speaks in the video, it sounds like the production of the new GB is a certainty.

The choil is missing.... not sure if that is an improvement on the original.

Ooh, I missed that! Good point. Well, we are looking at a "prototype" and the vid is old (2011) so maybe what we haven't seen the final design yet.

I agree. I'm sure(if its still being worked on) that there is a more refined version

YW, That's what I understood too. I hope I'm not mistaken about that.

The guard(?) on the handle looks like it will be ok for me.

I thougt that the other or new GB in the pic...was a slightly larger one. with a 4 inch (or nearly) blade.

Whatever it is. I WANT IT! The 2 GB knives that Spyderco has released have been pretty much the best that have been made. So more is better and I hope that we see it soon!!

I liked the proto that I saw at an Amsterdam Meet a few years back. The lack of choil was a plus to me on that design. I'm with DBSS, I want this one!

Back in august of 2011 I started a thread about this knife, the gist of which was that with the popularity of the current Gayle Bradley folder this one (without the choil) would probably be a while. Well,it has been awhile! I would still really like to see it in production and it appears I am not alone. Gayles designs are so elegant, yet completely functional.

Though I'm a big fan of Spyderco's choils, the GB's is what kept me from buying it. It just looks too dangerous - not enough protection from slippage. The new one looks way safer. Might have to have that one. The current one is beautiful, but I just don't know.
- best wishes, Jazz.
