Amsterdam Meet 2013 Report of Upcoming Spyderco Prototypes

Oh no, no thanks necessary. My wife understands my obsession and in fact picked me up from the A'dam Meet with my girls - also to say hi to the Spydercrew. Back in '05, it was in fact my wife who suggested we stopped in Golden for our honeymoon.

Another design from a knifedesigner that’s also a forumite! Last year’s concept model of the Serrata has seen a bit of ‘spyderization’ but not much I think. This was the last knife from the Amsterdam Meet I could ‘shoot and show’, and I forgot to take some measurements I’m afraid. I think the blade was around 5 inches long. The handle features thin contoured black micarta scales. Although the blade stock seemed thick – compared to the Perrin Streetbowie for example – it handled like a dream. I was kind of looking around for some stuff to cut. The knife moved lightly in the hand. It has excellent ergonomics. The thick blade showed excellent edge geometry. I’d love to put this knife to work. I didn’t see any sheath for the knife. It’s on my wishlist for sure!



A great big thank you to the Spydercrew for allowing me to shoot and share all these pictures of concept models, prototypes and production samples! Which other knife company does this for its afi's?!

Did you get a feel for the weight of the Serrata?

If it's any help I have a Serrata. It's about 9 inches in length with a 4.5 inch blade. Weight is 200 grammes.

Am I the only one that thinks the web engraving makes this model look too much like the cheap Chinese Spyderco knockoffs that are always floating around eBay? Don't get me wrong, I like the design, but the fakes tend to use similar embellishments on their knives.

The web engraving doesn't bother me, it just reminds me of the 2009 Forum Native

I can't tell from the photo if the scale material is Titanium, or Stainless? If it is Titanium, I think I'll probably end up buying one -- and a Serrata, definitely.

The Domino features a buttery smooth flipper action. Furthermore, unlike with the Southard flipper, the Domino’s flipper stays completely out of the way when you want to open the blade with the opening hole. To me, the Domino felt like a cool flipper version of the Manix. The overall size and shape seemed very similar to me. It‘s like a more refined Manix 2.



The specs we measured for the Domino are:

Blade Length: 9 cm / 3.54 inch
Overall Length: 19,3 cm / 7.59 inch

Still more knives to come tomorrow...

Was there an approx date as to the availability of this one?

Same feeling here, the engraving on the handle does make the knives look more like a chinese knock-off

I'm most interested in the Lava sprint, and actually the Hungarian Folder. I'm a sucker for a lot of edge in a smaller package, and the polished G10 and bolster look awesome on the Hungarian. Very reminiscent of the Sub hilt, IMO, I just never loved the looks of that one for some reason, perhaps the hole hump and the funky grind. Only downside is that I feel like I'd really have to handle it first. The blacked out Szabo does indeed look sweet, and I'd be interested to see that scale material in person.

You know, it would have been much more helpful if you'd rescaled the images so they were aspect accurate to each other and rotated them for comparative analysis (ducks, and runs for the door before knives are thrown at him)
