Southard does not like me!
I was extremely happy when the Southard was finally released, well I ended up with 3 of them for some how :D . I mildly pimped one, and ended up selling it to fund some projects, still had two right. Put one of the others into my EDC rotation and lost it 2 days later AARRRGGG!. Soo couple days ago I break out my last one, and today while I was out I realized it was no longer in my pocket!!!!. I think the Southard hates me as this is the only knife I have ever lost, and I did it twice in about 9 days.
Spent a few hours back tracking the places I visited, and tore the truck apart with no luck. Talk about a bummer, sure hope my luck changes and for the better, starting to get expensive!

Mine too fell out of my pocket the first weekend carrying it. Early one morning I was putting air in my tires. While squatting down it must have slid upwards and out and onto my gravel driveway. I drove away for the day and it wasn't until way later that day that I needed it. It wasn't there and I was heartbroken. It could have been anywhere I'd been for the last 8 hours. I had no idea where it could be.
Upon returning home my youngest son gets out of the car, takes a few steps and says "Dad?.?.?, Why is one of your knives underneath your tire?" Yup, I ran over my Southard. It was one of the best things that I could have done to it. It turned instantly into a no-holds-barred user and probably my favorite knife yet. I wish you the same joy of finding your Southard.
May you too have a Prodigal Spyderco.

So sorry to hear about your losses. I will admit I have had several close calls in the month or so I have been carrying the Southard. I am not in love with the pocket clip. I think amongst the 100 +/- foldiing spydies that I have, it has the least secure retention in pocket. My Manix, Para, Military, Delica, Caly, Dragonfly, etc. they all lock into the pocket and stay there. My Southard has snagged several coats from the inside, grabbed the fabric of my couch and torn a hole, as well as fallen out onto the bathroom floor when I go to have some reading time. I am going to invest in something a little deeper before I lose mine.

I have never lost a Spyderco mainly because I DON'T LOAN KNIVES, TOOLS, OR GUNS and I really never have trusted the clips on knives to hold.I always carry in the pocket of my Levis.I like the clip because it gives extra gripping power to the knife handle. Also knives work better in a self defense mode if they are a surprise.A clip kinda lets everyone know that you have a knife and a.it's no surprise b. they want to see it c. they want to borrow it and some folks just want to take it away from you. I my wife says that I don't trust anyone and she is totally right about that! My motto is "It's mine and I'm keepin it." They got yours at the store take some money and go git one just like I did.
So what your saying is you won't loan me your knife?lbwheat wrote:I have never lost a Spyderco mainly because I DON'T LOAN KNIVES, TOOLS, OR GUNS and I really never have trusted the clips on knives to hold.I always carry in the pocket of my Levis.I like the clip because it gives extra gripping power to the knife handle. This doesn't really make sense to me. I understand the gun part, but if someone needs a knife, you can just lend it to them for a few minutes. Unless you mean longer term. In that case, I'm glad to have friends whom I'd trust with a hundred dollar knife. I know you shouldn't trust more people, but I believe life would become too lonely without any friends you can trust, especially about such a small thing as a knife. (Sorry about saying that.) And if you lose a knife that way, it's not really losing, just kind of a theft. Self defense, sure. Not really sure how that has anything to do with losing a knife though. And the thing about pocket carry is when I sit down in the car, or just sit down, sometimes things fall out. Generally slippery small pens, but I've never lost a knife one a clip, and I've never gotten one caught on something either. Maybe I'm just more aware or wear my pants differently.lbwheat wrote:I have never lost a Spyderco mainly because I DON'T LOAN KNIVES, TOOLS, OR GUNS and I really never have trusted the clips on knives to hold.I always carry in the pocket of my Levis.I like the clip because it gives extra gripping power to the knife handle. As for the last sentence... are you suggesting the OP buy another knife? Don't know if that's such a good idea. My suggestion to the OP is figure out how you're losing knives! There's a reason they're not staying in your pocket, and if you keep buying knives and putting them there... well there will be a lot more lucky finders keepers out there.

Try this
On my M4 Military (Ti, G10) I also found that the pocket clip does not hold the knife as secure as on other grippier G10 knives (because it clips on the smooth Ti side).
The same thing on a CF Military where I sanded the CF smooth.
To get more grip from the clip, I cut a few horizontal grooves on the inside of the curve with a hacksaw. I then smoothed the grooves with a sharpmaker rod.
I had to play around a bit to find the sweet-spot to get good grip but not damage the pocket material.
Its and easy fix that could save you $250, or $500 in the OP's case...
