The Grail Knives Thread

#1

Post by kbrouwer »

Created a thread about this way back when I first started out on the forum. Figured I'd revive it in a fresh one because many if not all of the knives on my list changed. Feel free to weigh in with a list of your grail knives.

Here are a few of mine in no particular order:

Jens Anso Cato
Spyderco Military Carbon Fiber
Spyderco Fluted Titanium Military
Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Carbon Fiber
Spyderco Ed Schempp Tuff with a TUffthumbz Ti Scale in place of the G10 one.
Spyderco Paramilitary 2 Blue G10 M390
Lionsteel Ti Spine in Blue or Purple
Rick Hinderer XM-24 Full Ti CTS-XHP Slicer Grind Stone Wash (ideally flipperless but not really important)
Jens Anso Mojo
Any Ed Schempp Custom Knife

It doesn't exist yet, but the upcoming Carbon Fiber S90V Manix2 XL. If it had a DLC coat, it would seriously be the knife I've always wanted the Manix XL to be.
Retail warrior and hand-sharpener with a perpetually shaved left arm.
My modest collection: Digicam Black PM2, Endura4 Wave, Manix2 XL, Black Tenacious

Keep in mind, like my list, they don't all have to be Spyderco.

i think he's referring to knives that already exist.

I used to want a hinderer, but got over that when I lost interest in the whole "hard use" mind set.

I would love to get a scott cook loscha, but i doubt ill ever own one, not paying over $1,000 for a knife

Edit: a realistic grail would be a bg-42 large or small sebenza

For me a "Grail" knife has to be one that is used on a regular basis and one that is truly special. Simplicity and function should rule over all other parameters. I think the term "Grail" for knives is becoming cliche and should rather be termed as safe queen collectibles or an investment.

The only :spyder: blade I could refer to as a "Grail" is the Southfork, because it's basic no frills design hides it's true potential as an invaluable cutting tool with near limitless potential. Add that and the fact that it's the only widely available production model using the excellent S90V steel that costs half the price of one of Phil's customs.

I could easily sell off my entire assortment of knives and keep only this one knife for all my knife needed/related tasks while being perfectly content.
