Thuya Burl SS Dragonfly

#1

Post by Vess »

Thought I'd torture you with some juicy pictures again...

Finished another small project: modified SS Dragonfly with a thuya burl/birdeye scale and filework on the blade. Also did small "teeth" on the handle (where my index finger usually is) for an additional grip. Came out quite nice, but still a lot harder to work with compared to the new SS Cricket...

Now, next on the chopping block is the new and much improved SS Jester. Any suggestions? I was thinking either amboyna, padauk, bloodwood, lacewood or thuya again. And maybe a leather pouch so it won't get all scratched up...

You just can't help it, right? As usually, it's a pleasure to see your work, Vess

Nice work again there Vess! Make sure you post Jester pics when you are done. I don't know any of those types of wood so I would say go with a dark one. Take Care!

Nice work .... It's really a good looking knife. What did you use to bond the wood to the knife?

Very nice work. There is a wood popular here in the Sonoran Desert called Mesquite (same stuff you BBQ with). They make some really nice furniture out of it. I think I would give that a try if I was going to make a handle.

That is beautiful!

I think birdseye or flame amboyna would be great for that Jester. I can't wait to see it.

Ever ponder selling those as a side job, Vess? The quality is definitely there.

By the time you read this, you'll have already read it.

Well, I thought about it, but they usually don't sell on EBay for more than $100, and given the cost of the knife and shipping I'd only get about $7/hr, maybe less. No way to make a living...

But if I can get them, play with them, customize them and sell them while making a little profit, I'll probably do it as a hobby as long as I have time...

It *was* a nice Cricket, it's gone already, and I didn't even get to really play with it...

Ah, well. I'll get another soon enough, SE probably...
