I'm thinking about buying a small Spydie for everyday jobs...

Which one do you guys prefer, Salsa or MeerKat? Why?

I prefer the Salsa. It just seems stronger to me.

The Salsa isn't really that small. How about a Navigator?

I learn something new everyday, even though I don't want to. Jeff

If you want a small spydie, look at the cricket or dragonfly lines. I have 2 salsas, both CE(green #135v and grey user)... had a nav-style meerkat pe aus-6... I've been carrying my ss pe dragonfly since aug 20/2001, and it's a perfect match when used with a larger knife.

Small Spydie...I would have to agree with VW, go with the Dragonfly. If you are looking for slightly larger go with the Delica, such a great knife for the price!
Oh and I have a Salsa as well and love it. I would pick the Salsa over the Meerkat, it is a rock solid folder!

Between the Salsa and the Meercat, I grab the Meercat every time. I get a kick out of letting guys try to figure out the Phantom lock. I also like the way it rides a little lower in my pocket due to the way the clip is set up. When it's in your pocket, you only see the clip. The knife is completely inside your pocket. Finally, if you take your time, you can get one DIRT CHEAP on Ebay. I think I paid about 16 bucks plus shipping for mine. On a good deal, you'll likely pay at least 30 bucks for a Salsa.

Between those two,I'm on the fence. The Meerkat's lock is fun for messing w/people,and I love the clip. The Salsa has a great blade w/lots of belly and the colors are cool. But for EDC,I find the locks annoying. The Meerkat isn't too bad,but I just can't get into compression locks. Give me a midlock or liner lock anyday(or even better,a tang lock,Axis locks rule!). I guess I'd say Meerkat. Knifecenter.com has the S blades for $20,and I really like the blade shape. But I agree w/the guys,SS Dragonfly. Just got a PE last week, and now I know what all the fuss is about. I might actually like it a little better than the Copilot.

Dyna> take your edge down as low as possible. I'm working within 5deg from the flat, about 20deg (or under) inclusive... stop on 1200 paper, and it slices like nothing.

takes a convex edge nicely too. stop on 800grit for a nice working edge

Hi Castor,

The CoPilot is a great knife too. Small, good looking, good blade. It's one of my favourite EDC's.

I'd try to find a G-10 Navigator. It is slim, lightweight and has the front lock. The Meerkat is cool but you may find it too bulky. Don't know about the Salsa, never tried one so far.
