How often do you clean your spydie.

Ok be honest how often do you take your spydie apart a clean it to brand new? :rolleyes:

Never taken any of my spydies apart to clean them. If one gets dirty I do wash it out with soap and hot water and then relube. That happens maybe once every couple of months.

I have a Manix 2. I got it about 1 month ago and have never taken it apart. I blow the dust out of the handle/liners and wash the blade off with just water and of course thoroughly drying it, if not, it would rust.

I am not confident in taking apart my spydie I use dry air in a tin and a spray lubricant before I put away although I am probably OCD in my methods I like to keep what I have in as good condition as possible.

I have never taken one apart to clean. Hot water and soap. Blow dry with compressed air, relube for mine.

I've honestly never exposed a knife of mine to conditions I felt "needed" disassembly. A thorough spray out with gunscrubber followed by a lightly oiled pivot is my usual cleaning. Maybe once a year?

I don't like to take mine apart unless they are second-hand and I know the warranty may have already been compromised. I did just receive an old favorite knife from a friend (who originally purchased said knife from me) whom requested I clean and tuneup his only knife. I almost lost my lunch when I saw the condition he let it fall into. I removed every part, scrubbed, lubed and sharpened all the parts.

I completely disassemble, clean, and lubricate all of my knives (except my Microtech LCC D/A) at least once, and more likely twice, when I first get them.

After the those initial cleanings, if it's a lockback/slipjoint, I will occasionally clean the lock-tang area, otherwise my folders are left alone.

Maybe it's just me, but I love disassembling my knife and putting it back together. So I clean mine quite often. Probably more than it needs.

I clean them when they get dirty enough that were they someone else's, the sight of them would make me think, "This person does not take care of their tools."

I use my knives wisely and clean them after use asap... so they always look like new

I agree with tap78, I always try to clean my blade up after using it for a while. I also do a few passes on my pants during use to wipe off anything that might be hanging on my spydie. Thanks for everybody input on how they clean there knife.

I have also never felt that I needed to disassemble a knife to get it clean. Soap and water, an old toothbrush, lube and canned air do the job. I clean up my knives as they need it. Some get used rough at work and they get cleaned weekly. Others just need the blade wiped clean and back in the pocket they go.

I can honestly say i've never taken a knife apart just to clean it. When a knife has pillar construction, what's the point? There's nothing in there that can't be cleaned out with running water and compressed air.

I've never taken one apart and I rarely give detail cleanings, either. They just don't get that dirty.

In practice what happens is that I have to use goo gone on my blades to remove tape residue, then a rinse n dry and back in the pocket.

I cleaned and sharpened my wife's pink Delica the other day and I was HAPPY that it was so dull and dirty, because that meant she actually used it. I took great pleasure in whipping it back into shape.

The only knife I've taken apart only for maintenance is my Gayle Bradley. That was only to ensure the tang was treated completely with Tuf-Glide. Now that I have had a look at the insides I know the entire tang can be treated with lubricant or corrosion protection products without taking it apart. Liner locks have got to be some of the easiest to put back together. I will say that even though the GB is one of my smoothest knives ever, when I get it reassembled it is even smoother after thoroughtly wiping off the washers and all places where friction occures. I guess clean and new oil makes a difference. However, the improvement doesn't justify disassembling the knife. It is nice knowing I can though and when I get it back together it will always be just as good as new (or maybe smoother). :)

Other than the fact that the blade is a non-stainless steel I haven't had a need to disassemble a knife for cleaning. I don't get my knives dirty though. Hard work and dirt is not a part of my lifestyle any more.

If it were I may disassemble them for cleaning.
