Anybody falling for all the "prototypes" popping up?

There seems to be a plethora of prototypes popping up on eBay.
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

I wouldn't put much stock in someone claiming a knife to be a prototype, unless they had a notarized paper from Sal or spyderco ;)

Yes indeed. I liked the one about the guy on ebay claiming to have a black police model modified for easier opening and the navy SEAL trident engraved on it.

He said he was at a knife convention and asked a spyderco worker about it; they said no, but Sal was nearby and casually was like ya we did that and turned around and left.

If true thats quite awesome ;)

I would like for somebody from Spyderco to weigh in on this since the eBay seller claims to be a former employee.

He definitely typed up a nice story to go along with the auctions.

If it's who I think it is, there might be some truth to it. He was an personal friend and an employee back in the 90's. If they're not protos, they're probably early pieces. Ptototypes would probably have been engraved as such, but that was a long time ago and it's hard to remember. We had some really tough times back int he late 90's early 2000's. Came close to going under. Restructured twice (1999 & 2003) and pulled it out in '05.

Thank God you did pull it out! If you didn't none of us would have had such beautiful and purposeful pieces of edged pocket art!

That's one of the reasons that we love ya Sal. Obviously the product
is Grade A, but there is more to it than the products alone.
