It isn't easy right now, but I can see a turn coming at least in my line of work.
I appreciate a modest rented home in the semi-country, a loving wife, work where I am respected and gives plenty of opportunity to learn and think despite the BS, nice sharp :spyderco:'s, good friends and family, pickin' and grinnin' every now and then etc. Things could be a lot worse :) All and all I'm doing OK.
Sharpening these blades as much as I can is a very pleasant new hobby. Every knife I have is razor sharp  Most definitely appreciate the quality and materials that help that happen and allow me to share it with others :)
We'll all be OK :)

Being thankful is the key to more blessings
I can so much identify with this thread and I have learned to greatly appreciate the ones I currently have which is quite a few compared to many folks.
For instance I've wanted a Temp 2 so bad that I've even collected pop/beer cans to try to generate extra funds to be able to get one but some other emergency expense keeps coming up that wipes out all of my excess cash. I do however have 3 of the Temp 1 models that I've had for some time ( 2 PE and 1 SE model) and I've used the **** out of the PE & SE both in the past 3 years and really love that knife.
I've been mainly using most of my older Spyders with the exception of my newest EDC which is the C-60 Ayoob G-10 handled Sprint which I find to be a users dream folder. I haven't been able to buy a new knife in about 3 months now and it get's frustrating at times but again I'm thankful for the great blades I do have and enjoy the hobby greatly.
In the past year I've been investing more in Spyderco's newer sharpening equipment like the Duckfoot, Goldenstone and Slipstone as well as loading up on the 701 Profiles while they can still be bought.
Being appreciative of what you have during hard times does give you a much better overall appreciation of the good things in life when times do get better ( and they will). I am however going to get a Southfork, another H-1 Catcherman, and the newer ultra-fine stone even if I have to donate blood plasma on a weekly basis :D . I do believe better times are around the corner. But we all need to be more thankful for what we already have. Because being thankful is the key to getting more. Great thread.

Here is a thought. I got an email a couple of years ago about selling things around the house that I never use from eBay. It struck a nerve. So, I looked around and sure enough I have LOTS of things that I NEEDED at some point in my life but will never use again. Some are work related to work I no longer do and some are things my body can't handle anymore. Surfboard for example. :) I thought about becoming a professional surfer but realized I would win all the contests and all the other surfers would starve to death. So being the nice guy I am I stayed away from the money events.
Anyway, I bet if you folks look around you may see something you don't want but it has been easier to just let it sit there than get rid of it. Sure, you won't get all the money back but here is how I look at it. If I have something I paid $100 for and I will never use it again, the money is just as gone. If I can get $40 for it I'm that much closer to the next Spyderco. Like I said, just a though.
There are other options than eBay, but that's the one I did. It's easy, shipping can be handled from the house. You don't even have to pay for shipping or any fees until you get the money from a sale.

Reading this thread reminded me of the song “Lucky Man” by Montgomery Gentry:
Lucky Man
Songwriters: Turnbull, Dave; Cory, David Lee;
I have days where I hate my job
This little town and the whole world too
And last Sunday when the Bengals lost
Lord, it put me in a bad mood
I have moments when I curse the rain
Then complain when the sun's too hot
I look around at what everyone has
And I forget about all I've got
But I know I'm a lucky man
God's given me a pretty fair hand
Got a house and a piece of land
A few dollars in a coffee can
My old trucks still running good
My ticker's ticking like they say it should
I got supper in the oven, a good woman's loving
And one more day to be my little kid's dad
Lord, knows I'm a lucky man
Got some friends who would be here fast
I could call 'em any time of day
Got a brother who's got my back
Got a mama who I swears a saint
Got a brand new rod and reel
Got a full week off this year
Dad had a close call last spring
It's a miracle he's still here
But I know I'm a lucky man
God's given me a pretty fair hand
Got a house and a piece of land
A few dollars in a coffee can
My old trucks still running good
My ticker's ticking like they say it should
I got supper in the oven, a good woman's loving
One more day to be my little kid's dad
Lord, knows I'm a lucky man
Oh, my old trucks still running good
My ticker's ticking like they say it should
I got supper in the oven, a good woman's loving
And even my bad days ain't that bad
Yeah, I'm a lucky man, I'm a lucky, lucky man

Sadly, I generally have to remind myself at least a few times each week to slow down and enjoy the good things in my life vs. trying to plan my next “big buy.” Sure, there are many things that I would love to have, but usually I don’t “need” to have them. For instance, would I love to get a Ti Fluted Military? You bet. Would I love to get a NIB Barong, Khukuri, Ronin, or Chinook II? Absolutely. But as of late, I have really tried hard to show a little self-control and pass over some of the enticing things that literally call my name. (It is for this reason that I have not been on the ‘Bay for the past two months :o ). It’s not easy to resist the urge of hitting the “Buy it Now” button—especially with free shipping, but I know I’ll feel much better in the end if I do.
Good luck to you all! :)
